Over the past several months, Democrat mayors and governors have actively thwarted the Trump administration’s efforts to identify, arrest, and deport people who are in our country illegally — not because the president is a “racist bigot” but because a duly-passed law by Congress says it’s a crime to break into America.
They have done this by revealing secret Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sting operations to the general public — through social media, mostly, but also using various other means. The end result has been that scores of illegal aliens, including many who are violent and who have committed other crimes in the past including rape, assault, and drug-dealing, were tipped off to the pending enforcement actions and managed to escape.
Now, one of the 2020 Democratic presidential contenders, South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, a former naval officer who once swore an oath to protect, defend, and uphold the Constitution, is doing the same thing.
And frankly, it should be a disqualifying factor for any presidential contender, The Gateway Pundit reports.
As noted by Fox News:
South Bend, Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg reportedly helped create an alert system that would notify families if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided his residents' homes or businesses.
The "phone tree," according to The Daily Beast on Wednesday, was one of several actions Buttigieg took to protect illegal immigrants in his town. Phone trees consist of an automated calling system that helps spread messages quickly and efficiently.
Presumably, the report continued, such phone trees would help inform illegal aliens of potential raids by ICE such as those that took place earlier this month at several businesses in Mississippi.
Buttigieg’s alleged actions came under fire after Judicial Watch, a conservative legal watchdog organization, sued South Bend over a “Community Resident Card” program the mayor was said to have developed in conjunction with La Casa, a Left-wing, pro-open borders organization. (Related: Trump defends ICE raids, says they serve as ‘a good deterrent’ to illegal border crossings.)
According to reports, the program essentially legitimized people who are in the U.S. illegally by allowing them to open bank accounts, use public services, and fill prescriptions without once having to worry about being identified as in the country illegally and deported.
In addition, Buttigieg partnered with local businesses on the program while directing utilities and other city services to take the cards as a form of legal identification.
The president has been fiercely critical of so-called “sanctuary cities” like South Bend — localities that have passed ordinances prohibiting local law enforcement from dedicating any resources to assist federal immigration officers.
But what’s disturbing is that local officials including some Democratic presidential contenders like Buttigieg go beyond sanctuary city policies. They actively undermine federal immigration law by putting in place additional rules and procedures making it easy for illegal aliens to integrate into American society without ever having to go through the standard process of becoming legal residents and, eventually, citizens.
As for federal immigration authorities, Democrats like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York have regularly demonized agencies like ICE to the point where its personnel and facilities are coming under attack.
The most recent one occurred in San Antonio last week when unknown gunmen fired into an occupied ICE facility very early in the morning, nearly injuring or killing personnel inside.
And last month, a self-described Antifa member attempted to firebomb an ICE detention facility in Tacoma, Washington, before he was killed by police.
Bottom line: Anyone who helps people who came into the country illegal remain in the country is committing a crime at a minimum and treason at most. When are these people going to be held accountable?
