Yes, it’s time to change America’s libel laws to stop the deliberate lies and false smears pushed by left-wing “journalists”
05/30/2019 // JD Heyes // Views

Our founders thought that a free press was so important to the maintenance of the new republic that they included it as part of the very first amendment to the Constitution.

But thanks to the American Left, extremists one and all, that concept is has been stretched beyond its limits in the age of POTUS Donald Trump.

Not only has the Democrat-friendly “mainstream media” published one fake news story after another involving the president, his family, and his administration, now we have so-called “journalists” completely fabricating quotes and then attributing them to the president despite the negative impact it could have on national security, foreign policy, and domestic tranquility.

Over the Memorial Day holiday, a Trump-hating “journalist” for Time Magazine and professor at New York University, Ian Bremmer, tweeted a supposed ‘quote’ uttered by the president during a state visit to our Asian ally Japan.

Bremmer posted on Twitter (now deleted) that the president said, “Kim Jong Un is smarter and would make a better President than Sleepy Joe Biden.”

Later, he backtracked and wrote, “This is objectively a completely ludicrous quote. And yet kinda plausible. Especially on twitter, where people automatically support whatever political position they have. That’s the point.”

‘Kinda plausible?’

He is right about one thing: If the ‘quote’ supports a person’s political beliefs — in this case, Trump hate, no matter what — it will get supported. And retweeted.

In fact, several people did retweet Bremmer’s fake quote, including lawmakers like perennial Trump troll Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.). In fact, as reported by The Washington Examiner, Bremmer did not confess to fabricating the post until after it was noticed and repeated by Left-wing hacks like Lieu and CNN analyst Ana Navarro-Cardenas (whose Trump Derangement Syndrome is well into the advanced stages) and then spread around the cybersphere as a real quote. (Related: Leftist media now calling edited videos accurately depicting a mindless Pelosi “doctored” in an attempt to discredit them.)

He finally apologized, but it was too late

The fake quote was duly noted by POTUS Trump, who used the occasion to stump for tougher libel laws.

@ianbremmer now admits that he MADE UP ‘a completely ludicrous quote,’ attributing it to me. This is what’s going on in the age of Fake News. People think they can say anything and get away with it. Really, the libel laws should be changed to hold Fake News Media accountable!” he tweeted.

Lots of people on that sewer known as Twitter attempted to ‘fact-check’ the president who, at times of course, has played fast and loose with the truth (though certainly no worse than his predecessor, who lied so often we thought it was part of his job description).

But we can’t remember an occasion where the president libeled someone else, especially in the same vein as Bremmer libeled the president — while he was in a foreign country.

As for the quote, North Korean leader Kim did label Biden a “fool of low IQ” and an “imbecile bereft of elementary quality as a human being” after the former VP and current 2020 presidential contender called him a tyrant during a recent speech, Fox News reports.

Perhaps because he was approached by editors at Time or for some other reason — the fact that many other journalists called him out, perhaps — Bremmer issued an apology on Monday, via Twitter.

“My tweet yesterday about Trump preferring Kim Jong Un to Biden as President was meant in jest," he wrote. "The President correctly quoted me as saying it was a 'completely ludicrous' statement. I should have been clearer. My apologies.”

Daniel Dale, a Canadian journalist, seems to be very familiar with Bremmer. He tweeted on Sunday, “This quote is fabricated. As often, no idea what Bremmer is doing.”
