POTUS told assembled media as the subject wavered, expectedly, into his immigration policies and Nielsen’s departure:
Obama separated the children, by the way. Just so you understand, President Obama separated the children. Those cages that were shown? I think they were very inappropriate. They were built by President Obama’s administration, not by Trump. President Obama had child separation. Take a look.
The press knows it, you know it, we all know it. I’m the one that stopped it. President Obama had child separation. Now, I’ll tell you something. Once you don’t have it, that’s why you see many more people coming. They’re coming like it’s a picnic because let’s go to Disneyland. We are not looking to do it. But President Obama had the law. We changed the law.
That’s absolutely true.
And what’s also true, absolutely, is that the media all know it. CNN even did a piece in 2014 showing migrant children being housed in literal cages, as the following screenshot above proves.
Now, to be fair, Obama’s administration didn’t have much choice, either. The ‘caging’ of children came in response to an influx of illegal aliens at our southwest border much like the migrant invasion POTUS Trump’s administration is now dealing with. Children were put in separate facilities as required by law thanks to a Ninth Circuit court decision in the late 1990s known as the “Flores settlement,” which was also supported by that bastion of Left-wing legal groups, the ACLU.
But it was a horrific thing to have to do. And it did occur during Obama’s watch — not Trump’s. (Related: Study: U.S. is ALREADY home to one-fifth of the world’s migrant population, but that’s not enough for open borders advocates.)
After the president’s very public reminder Tuesday that opponents of child caging should be directing their angst at his predecessor instead of him, CNN dutifully responded to an attack on their hero by claiming, unbelievably (unless you’re a drone) that Obama did it because he’s a compassionate guy who only sought “protection” for migrant kids, Zero Hedge noted.
After playing the clip of POTUS Trump pointing the child caging finger at Obama, CNN host Wolf Blitzer said, “The President, in the Oval Office with the Egyptian President, he denied CNN’s reporting and other reporting that he is thinking of reinstating zero-tolerance family separation policy. He repeated this accusation against President Obama. […] [Trump] stopped it after he authorized the zero-tolerance policy.”
National Security Analyst Samantha Vinograd then responded, “President Obama, when he separated children from their families, Wolf, it was for their protection. It was as if there was a risk of trafficking or other kind of harm that might have been incurred. But even if he did do that, why is Donald Trump saying that two wrongs make a right? Again, Obama wasn’t right, but he’s saying that because something is happening under President Obama, he’s repeating it and upping the ante. That’s an incredibly poor excuse. He’s systemized that inhumane treatment that, again, Obama was doing to protect children.”
What’s an “incredibly poor excuse” for a “news” network is CNN, whose crackpot ‘analysts’ and guests constantly go out of their way to legitimize any and all of Obama’s policies as well as those of his fellow Democrats but attack everything Trump and his administration do as nefarious, improper, or even illegal.
The facts are about as clear as they can get: The caging of children happened on Obama’s watch, and there is zero evidence to support Vinograd’s ridiculous assertion that the caging was done to “protect” them.
