Devin Nunes says “criminal referrals” coming at appropriate time “for many crimes” surrounding Spygate coup attempt against POTUS Trump

The former GOP head of the House Intelligence Committee said on at least two occasions last week that he and others — presumably other Republicans — are preparing criminal referrals related to the “Spygate” coup attempt against POTUS Donald Trump.

In an interview with One America News during the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this month, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), said that he and other GOP lawmakers were still, after two years, attempting to find out additional details regarding the Deep State operation to spy on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign as well as undermine it to the point of driving him from office after he defeated Hillary Clinton.

“We’re still continuing to get to the bottom of what was happening to the Department of Justice and the FBI, trying to make sure that everyone there is held accountable…either through the courts or otherwise…. We’ll be making criminal referrals on a whole host of topics, most importantly probably lying and misleading Congress,” Nunes said.

The California lawmaker also made it a point to note that while special counsel Robert Mueller has made a number of cases thus far, he’s “skipped a whole bunch of people who’ve lied or mislead Congress, so we’ll be making those referrals to the Department of Justice.”

A few days after that interview, during an appearance on Fox News’ Sean Hannity program, Nunes made the same claim, as reported by Fellowship of the Minds:

We are preparing a criminal referral that we will present to the attorney general at the appropriate time…for many crimes. The obvious ones that you would know about would be lying to Congress. But we will also be looking at FISA [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act] abuse and all the other matters that we have been looking into. It will probably be one large referral….

Nunes also mentioned a timeline — “in the next two to three, four weeks” — for making the referral. What’s more, he cautioned against paying attention to the new “shiny balls” currently “running around Congress here.” And he said people should “ignore” calls for new investigations into the president and his campaign from partisans like the new head of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who took over for Nunes when the chamber flipped to his party in the midterms.

It’s about time someone made some criminal referrals of Spygate players

Nunes said that a federal judge in Florida ordered the release of a deposition this week by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele, author of the infamous “Steele dossier” that was used by the FBI to launch a counterintelligence probe against 2016 Team Trump — though officials knew that it was a political document and not a serious piece of intelligence. (Fun fact: When Nunes was in charge of the Intelligence Committee, the panel produced a report noting that the FBI knew the dossier was bogus Hillary Clinton political opposition research, a fact later substantiated by Justice Department official Bruce Ohr during closed-door congressional testimony).

The California Republican also said that the judge ordered the release of a deposition by David Kramer, “who pled the Fifth” to the Intelligence Committee, “who we know was handling and moving the dossier around to press outlets,” Nunes told Hannity. (Related: Collusion: Top Dem lawyer gave FBI attorney Russian dossier the bureau invoked to SPY on Trump campaign.)

Release of the depositions “could be critical…for our referral” Nunes said.

As Fellowship of the Minds noted, Kramer was nominated by President George W. Bush to be the assistant secretary of state for democracy, human rights, and labor, where he served for about a year, from 2008 until January 2009. He is currently the senior director for human rights and human freedoms at the (John) McCain Institute; McCain asked Kramer to go to London to meet with Steele in November 2016 after POTUS Trump defeated Hillary, where they both arranged for the late senator and Trump hater to get a copy of the dossier.

It’s not clear what sort of referral Nunes and his fellow lawmakers are going to make regarding Spygate, but it’s about time someone did.
