On his Friday program, Maher was doing what he nearly always does — taking pot shots at conservatives and in particular supporters of POTUS Donald Trump because, as one of Hollywood’s run-of-the-mill Leftists, that’s his schtick. It’s all Trump hate all the time or poor little Bill doesn’t have much to talk about.
In any event, even Maher outdid himself during this week’s program. In criticizing — ripping, actually — conservative voters, Maher went several steps further in extending his ire to Americans who have different ZIP codes than he does.
“That’s why red state voters are so p!ssed off,” Maher said in reference to people who live in states dominated by conservatives and supporters of POTUS Trump.
“They don’t hate us,” he continued, referring to blue state liberals, “they want to be us. They want to go to the party. It’s like we’re the British royal family and they’re Megan Markle’s dad.”
That’s pretty arrogant for a guy who earns millions of dollars for telling jokes that other people write. But Maher’s hubris didn’t stop there.
“Maybe that has something to do with why Trump voters are obsessed with ‘owning the libs.’ Because the libs own everything else. (Related: Bill Maher’s idiotic liberal audience cheers and hoots in support of mass censorship.)
“The blue parts of America are having a big prosperity party while that big sea of red feels like their invitation got lost in the mail,” he continued. “We have chef Wolfgang Puck, they have Chef Boyardee. Our roofs have solar panels, theirs have last year’s Christmas lights.”
While no doubt that smattering of nonsense played well with Maher’s Leftist audience, in reality, humor is funnier when it has a ring of authenticity to it, and little of what the Real Time host spewed was factual.
Being wrong and arrogant makes you a pinhead
First of all, the blue states of California, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York are shedding residents — and taxpayers — faster than the Oscars are losing ratings and advertisers. In study after study during the Trump presidency, high taxes combined with increased regulations have driven more people out of these states than has attracted new residents.
California may have the world’s sixth-largest economy, but it also has the highest poverty rate in the United States. Housing in the state’s high-growth areas like Silicon Valley is enormously expensive and only getting more so — not that Maher, the limo liberal who doesn’t live like most other Californians, realizes (or cares).
Illinois — Land of Lincoln and Land of Broke Pensions — has lost population (and tax base) for five straight years. Newly empowered Democrats don’t have a plan to reverse the state’s $130 billion pension deficit other than to raise taxes again, but how much and on who?
New Jersey is in much the same shape as Illinois, and New York is broke as well. The Empire State is $2.3 billion in the red, and even its far-Left Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said he can’t go back to the well again and impose higher taxes on the state’s wealthiest earners because high taxes are already driving them out.
Meanwhile, red states like Utah and Texas are doing marvelously. In 2018, the American Legislative Exchange Council found that red states had the best economic outlook for the future thanks to adopting lighter regulations, lower taxes, and limited government, the Washington Examiner reported.
“Nine of the ten states with the best economic outlook for 2018 are red, mirrored inversely by nine of the ten states with the worst economic outlooks that are blue,” the news site noted, citing the research.
Bill Maher can mock conservatives all he wants, but that doesn’t make him right. It just makes him arrogant.
