That’s become standard practice on the Left since Donald Trump became president. Once hailed and honored by minorities as one of their biggest supporters and allies, the Donkey Party and its supporters now equate him with the founders of the KKK (all of whom were, ironically, Democrats).
But not all allegations of racism are legitimate, of course, and in fact, some are flat-out fabrications, used by Leftists to gain political advantages, engender sympathy, feed into the (false) narrative that “Trumpsters” are all bigots or a combination of all three.
Case in point, perhaps: “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett.
A few weeks ago, he claimed he was beaten up in the wee hours of a frigid morning in Chicago as he ventured out around 2 a.m. for a Subway sandwich. At the time, he told police that two hooded men worked him over, at once shouting racial and homophobic slurs (Smollett is gay), pouring a liquid believed to be bleach on him, and informing him in a loud and deliberate manner that “This is MAGA country.”
Instant hate crime, with a side order of Trump the Bigot. Naturally, the anti-POTUS automatons in Hollywood chimed right in, blasting all of the president’s supporters as covert Klansmen (Klanspeople?) and virtue-signaling their support for Smollett.
But in the days that followed the alleged attack, strange things began to happen. Smollett’s claims were not bearing out. Witnesses didn’t materialize. Friends began to doubt his version of events. And police could find no real suspects and no video of the alleged whupping, though Smollett was traveling in a video-heavy part of the city.
Not only were police in Chicago — who quickly declared what happened a “hate crime” — not getting any cooperation from the actor. Neither was the FBI. (Related: Media utterly humiliated again by ‘MAGA’ hate hoaxes – Trump derangement syndrome has destroyed the Liberal media complex.)
A few days after the alleged attack, Smollett even read a prepared statement before a performance at Chicago’s Troubadour Theater, in which he ‘walked back’ previous claims, namely, he didn’t have any broken ribs and he never actually went to the hospital.
Chicago PD did find video of the actor, however, but not of the attack: They say security footage showed him returning to his apartment still holding his just-purchased Subway sandwich, Grabien News reported. Many observers found that to be a bit surprising given his horrific ordeal (alleged).
Initially, and for two weeks afterward, Smollett refused to turn his cell phone over to cops so they could verify parts of his story — namely, that he was talking to his manager at the time he was attacked. He finally did turn over a downloaded .pdf version of ‘phone data,’ which was “heavily redacted” according to police, and thus, worthless. So police are asking for more records.
In addition, The New York Post reports that neighbors aren’t buying into the actor’s story, either.
“I don’t believe it happened the way he said it did,” Agin Muhammad, who lives in the same pricey high-rise near the Navy Pier as Smollett, told the Post.
“I’ve been in this neighborhood five years. I don’t believe it, not around here … Half the people are gay and the other half are black.”
One customer at Lizzie McNeill’s Irish Pub, located about a block from the alleged attack, told the Post Smollett’s story “doesn’t really make sense.”
“It’s a lie because Chicago is the most liberal city around,” the man — who didn’t give his name — said. “They have cameras everywhere… Why can’t they find the attack?”
Chicago PD said several days ago that if it was discovered that Smollett filed a fake hate crime report he would be charged accordingly.
That time may have arrived.
