The latest example of this, perhaps unsurprisingly, comes from the sphere of “climate change” science, with a new study claiming that activists have been manipulating data to make it seem that sea levels are rising at an alarming rate in the Indian Ocean.
Drs. Albert Parker and Clifford Ollier, researchers from the University of Western Australia, recently published a study in the journal Earth Systems and Environment, in which they questioned claims by the Permanent Service of Mean Sea Level (PSMSL) that there has been a dramatic and alarming rise in the sea level of the Indian Ocean. The PSMSL based their claims on raw data collected from sites in Yemen, Pakistan and India.
The Australian researchers asserted in their study that the PSMSL figures were skewed because only higher sea level readings were included, while readings that reflected lower sea levels were ignored.
The researchers noted:
Properly examined data from tide gauges and other sources such as coastal morphology, stratigraphy, radiocarbon dating, archaeological remains, and historical documentation indicate a lack of any alarming sea level rise in recent decades for all the Indian Ocean. …
Without arbitrary alignment of data, Aden exhibits very stable sea level conditions like those in Mumbai, India and Karachi, Pakistan, without any significant sea level trend. [Emphasis added]
The PSMSL went even further, presumptuously “correcting” data from the periods between 1879 and 1893, and 1916 to 1933. This skewed the data even more, making the supposed rise in the ocean level seem even more dramatic.
According to the Daily Mail, the organization admits as much on its own website:
The datum at each station is defined to be approximately 7,000mm below mean sea level, with this arbitrary choice made many years ago in order to avoid negative numbers in the resulting RLR monthly and annual mean values.
Interestingly, data from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) clearly indicates that the levels of all the world’s oceans have been dropping – which is exactly the opposite of what global warming alarmists have been prophesying for years.
Natural News reported back in July of 2017:
On a NASA page intended to spread climate alarmism, NASA’s own data reveal that world-wide ocean levels have been falling for nearly two years, dropping from a variation of roughly 87.5mm to below 85mm.
These data, of course, clearly contradict the false narrative of rapid, never-ending rising ocean levels that flood continents and drown cities — a key element of the climate change “boogeyman” fiction that’s used to scare gullible youth into making Al Gore rich.
The latest measurement, as of August 2017, is 81mm.
Interestingly, until very recently, activists and alarmists referred to the supposed weather change crisis as “global warming.” Now that the Earth is experiencing colder weather than has been recorded in many decades, including the freezing conditions on the East Coast of the United States recently, that term has been subtly altered in the mainstream media to “climate change.”
Since climate change alarmists and “scientists” have been altering the narrative and the data to fit the theory, it makes sense to question their allegations and to quell the hysteria they have been generating with their propaganda.
