As reported by Infowars, which has been deplatformed from just about every major tech media and e-commerce platform in existence, Sen. Ron Wyden from the insanely blue state of Oregon wants to take censorship to a whole other level. He’s written legislation that calls for “consequences” if Big Tech platforms don’t ban people he thinks should have no right to free speech or expression (like Alex Jones, founder of Infowars).
Paul Joseph Watson notes:
In an interview with Recode, Wyden, the senior U.S. Senator from Oregon, said that platforms should be punished for hosting content that he deems to go against “common decency.”
Naturally, Wyden thinks that far-Left speech authoritarians like him should get to decide how to define “common decency.”
“I think what the Alex Jones case shows, we’re gonna really be looking at what the consequences are for just leaving common decency in the dust,” he said.
“What I’m gonna be trying to do in my legislation is to really lay out what the consequences are when somebody who is a bad actor, somebody who really doesn’t meet the decency principles that reflect our values, if that bad actor blows by the bounds of common decency, I think you gotta have a way to make sure that stuff is taken down.”
That statement is so chilling and so not “our values” that the founders would likely have cast Wyden out of the Constitutional Convention for even suggesting that government be empowered to curb, limit, censor, or ban any speech that doesn’t constitute a crime (such as libel or slander).
And by the way, what is so different about what Alex Jones says versus the insanity that comes out of the mouths of Left-wing hacks, stooges, pretend journalists, and lawmakers every single day? If you look at how conservatives and pro-Trump supporters have been maligned on a daily basis – called Nazis, bigots, racists, homophobes, and much worse – if we applied Wyden’s ‘speech police’ regulations they’d be among the first to suffer “consequences” … right?
Of course, that’s not right. Because to Left-wing authoritarians like Wyden, speech codes are not meant for people who share his views; they’re only meant for people who don’t share his views.
People like Alex Jones. And Paul Joseph Watson. And me. (Related: Google, Facebook, YouTube censorship of conservative sites, voices just like Communist CHINA.)
And look, not everyone agrees with the posting of pornographic materials, but as long as the images and videos do not involve lawbreaking (sex with minors – which elements of the Left actually favor) then who is Wyden or any congressional representative to get in the way of that?
As Watson notes, Leftist extremists like Wyden don’t simply want to censor Jones, they want to erase his entire existence and completely revoke his First Amendment rights.
Didn’t Democrats use to fight for civil rights? Now they only do so when Leftists are speaking.
Jones’ Infowars has been banned by Facebook and YouTube. Jones himself was recently kicked off Twitter for a week for nothing more than saying something that ‘offended’ some snowflakes.
Wyden – and no doubt a lot of other Democrats – would kick him and every other voice out of the public’s eye completely, just like the Communist Chinese government does, simply because their views don’t align with his.
This is precisely why the founders wrote the First Amendment – to give a platform to people like Jones so he can expose authoritarians and hold them to account.
