How else would it be possible for a murder suspect in our country illegally to insist that he not be referred to as being in our country illegally if he didn’t think he had enough cultural support to do so?
Or at least his lawyer thinks so.
The attorney for the suspected killer of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts, a University of Iowa sophomore who went missing about a month ago, is criticizing the “sad and sorry” POTUS Donald Trump for daring to comment publicly about an issue that is near and dear to his heart (and a centerpiece of his 2016 campaign – curbing illegal immigration and illegal immigrant crime).
The Daily Wire reported that lawyer Allen Richards complained in court papers filed this week that POTUS characterized his client, Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, a Mexican national, as an illegal alien because he claims Rivera was working at an Iowa dairy farm legally.
“Sad and sorry Trump has weighed in on this matter in national media which will poison the entire possible pool of jury members,” Richards wrote.
That said, Richards’ assertion that his client is a legal resident is patently false. As reported by KJAN:
Immigration authorities say they have no record of granting admission into the United States to the man suspected of killing an Iowa college student. A spokesman for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said Wednesday that a search of the agency’s records found nothing indicating that Cristhian Bahena Rivera “has any immigration status.”
You know what else influences a jury’s eventual guilty verdict? A lawyer who lies to them. Clearly, Rivera is in the country illegally, and it seems equally clear that he killed Tibbetts since he led authorities to her body and told them he “blacked out” after hitting on her on the street and she threatened to call the police.
As for Richards, his filing seeks a gag order after accusing the federal government and especially the president for lying about his client’s legal status. On POTUS Trump’s personal account and the White House’s official Twitter account, Rivera was referred to as an “illegal alien” and then held up (correctly) as an example of our broken, lame, unenforceable patchwork of immigration laws.
Hitting on Democrats’ theme of bashing POTUS over his now-ended policy of “separating families” caught sneaking across the border – the same policy immigration authorities used under Obama – the president said in a tweeted message that Mollie was now “permanently separated from her family.”
“A person came in from Mexico illegally and killed her,” he said – though, admittedly, there’s been no trial yet and no guilty verdict. “We need the [border] wall, we need our immigration laws changed, we need our border laws changed, we need Republicans to do it because the Democrats aren’t going to do it.” (Related: New legislation from Steve King would put open borders lawbreakers like Oakland Mayor Schaaf behind bars.)
No, they aren’t. In fact some of them, like a certain highly probable 2020 Democratic presidential candidate who used fake American Indian heritage to get plumb professorial positions at Ivy League schools, are dismissing Mollie’s death as a minor issue compared to really important” things like harassing immigrants as they break into America (*cough!* Elizabeth Warren *cough!*).
What’s worse, as The National Sentinel reports, is that Mollie isn’t the first and won’t be the last. In 2017 Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 127,000 illegal aliens with pending charges or criminal records. Of those, more than 1,800 were wanted for or had committed homicides.
These are the people Democrats are not just defending but normalizing. So much so that the attorney of an illegal alien murder suspect is more worried about squelching his immigration status than the crime he is said to have committed.
