Triggered liberals call cops on student who drew a math symbol because he said it kinda sorta resembled a GUN

Less than a week after the tragic shooting that occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that claimed the lives of 17 innocent people, police were called to a Louisiana high school for something much more trivial: A square-root sign, which some students said looked like a gun.

As Fox News reports, after several students at Oberlin High School commented on how the square-root symbol resembles a firearm, one student – who at the time was helping another student with a math problem that required the use of the symbol – said something that was interpreted as a “threat out of context,” which in turn prompted law enforcement to get involved. Though the student’s comment was not initially revealed by police, Superintendent Michael Doucet said that it was something along the lines of “now let’s get to work before I shoot you with a pistol.”

The student’s home was searched, but no guns were found, nor was there any evidence that suggested that the student intended on bringing firearms to the school to kill innocent people.

In the official report for the incident, school officials concluded that even though “the student used extremely poor judgment” in the comment that he made, there was “clearly no evidence to support charges.” However, according to Superintendent Doucet, the school board has since approved new rules and guidelines regarding shooting threats, meaning that the student may still face disciplinary action in the weeks to come.

“The first thing we’re going to do is remove that student from the premises with proper authority,” Doucet said during an interview with a local ABC affiliate. “Then, we’re going to have a home visit done by detectives of the sheriff’s department, and if no charges were filed, we’re going to conduct a threat assessment on the student.” (Related: Did you fall for the “18 school shootings in 2018” fake news hoax? While it’s good to know that the faculty members at Oberlin High School take shooting threats seriously, let’s not forget that this entire fiasco started with something as simple as a square-root symbol. Granted, the student that originally made the comment in question should have known better than to say something like “let’s get to work before I shoot you with a pistol,” especially considering how on edge everybody is in the days following the mass shooting in Parkland. On the flipside, though, the comment stemmed from the notion that the square-root symbol looks like a gun, which begs the question: What other firearm-shaped signs and objects will schools overreact to?

We already know that pop tarts are on that list, considering what happened to 7-year-old Josh Welch of Park Elementary School back in 2013. As ABC 15 reported at the time, Welch was suspended from school after biting his breakfast pastry into what his teacher considered to be the shape of a gun. Ironically, Welch explained that he wasn’t even trying to shape the pop tart into a firearm; he was trying to make it look like a mountain.

“It was already a rectangle and I just kept on biting it and biting it and tore off the top and it kinda looked like a gun but it wasn’t,” Josh said. “All I was trying to do was turn it into a mountain but it didn’t look like a mountain really and it turned out to be a gun kinda.” (Related: This new law would make it clear that pop tarts are not guns.)

Here’s the thing that liberals need to find a way to accept: If the square-root symbol looks like a gun, who cares. If a student bites his pop tart into the shape of a gun, who cares. The problem is not firearms; it’s a society that constantly associates them with evil and wickedness rather than a tool that can be used for self-defense and to save innocent lives.
