California Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia, a high-profile #MeToo advocate whose championing of the issue earned her national attention, has herself been accused of multiple instances of sexually harassing at least one male legislative staffer and a male lobbyist, as reported by Politico.
The site noted she herself is now the subject of a state legislative investigation following a report she sexually harassed and groped the former legislative staffer, adding:
In December, when Time magazine announced that “Silence Breakers” who spoke out against sexual harassment were its Persons of the Year, Garcia’s face was prominently included in the art accompanying the cover story.
However, Daniel Fierro of Cerritos told the website that in 2014, when he was a 25-year-old staffer to Assemblyman Ian Calderon, Garcia — a powerful Dem lawmaker and chairwoman of the Legislative Women’s Caucus and Natural Resources Committee — groped him.
He noted that she got him alone following an annual Assembly softball game in Sacramento as he was cleaning up one of the dugouts. Fierro said Garcia — who appeared drunk — began stroking his back, squeezing his buttocks and tried to fondle his crotch before he managed to get out of there.
Fierro told Politico he didn’t report the incident, which happened before today’s #MeToo movement and state legislation to protect whistleblowing legislative staffers. (Related: Dem hypocrites NOW tell creepy Al Franken to REMAIN in Senate.)
However, he said he mentioned the incident last January to his former boss Calderon, who then referred the matter to the Assembly Rules Committee, which is now investigating the claims.
Fierro isn’t the only one who was allegedly victimized by a woman who, if guilty, is this month’s biggest Democratic hypocrite. A prominent lobbyist in Sacramento is also claiming that Garcia accosted him as well at a political fundraiser for Gov. Jerry Brown (D). Speaking anonymously to Politico, he said she attempted to grab his crotch too:
The lobbyist, who represents a major industry association, said that Garcia appeared to have been drinking heavily at a fundraiser hosted by Governor Jerry Brown for state Senator Josh Newman at the de Veres bar in Sacramento. He said he was heading out the door in part to avoid the assemblywoman — who had been increasingly “flirtatious” and had called him on a few occasions before for late night drinks which he repeatedly declined.
As he attempted to leave the venue Garcia spotted him and asked, “Where are you going?” he said.
“She came back and was whispering real close and I could smell the booze and see she was pretty far gone,’’ he said. “She looked at me for a second and said, “I’ve set a goal for myself to f*ck you.”
At that, the #MeToo champ “stepped in front of me and reaches out and is grabbing for my crotch,” the lobbyist told Politico. For him that was his “line in the sand,” and he stopped her. “I was four inches from her, eyeball to eyeball, and I said, ‘That ain’t gonna happen.’”
These allegations come on the heels of high-profile #MeToo activism by Garcia, now one of the state capital’s leading voices on the issue (try not to puke).
She was one of hundreds of women in Sacramento who signed onto to a letter with the hashtag #WeSaidEnough in protest of — what else? — sexual harassment, telling The New York Times that she has been a serial victim of harassment by men during the course of her legislative work.
“Multiple people have grabbed my butt and grabbed my breasts,” she told the paper. “We’re talking about senior lobbyists and lawmakers.”
Riiiight.
Legitimate women activists against harassment, Politico noted, are concerned that if the allegations against Garcia are true it will damage the movement.
Of course it will, but more than anything else, it will once again expose Democrats as they hypocrites they are on this particular issue alone.
