As reported by The Washington Examiner, Drexel University’s College of Medicine in Philadelphia has just announced it will launch a Transgender Fellowship Training Program at Hahnemann University Hospital, the school’s teaching facility.
The first-of-its-kind program is ostensibly in response to a ‘spike’ in requests for gender reassignment surgery, hence the need for this “groundbreaking new program” which will train physicians to focus on “treating transgender patients and gender affirmation surgeries,” the news site reported.
As further reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, the teaching hospital actually began planning the Transgender Surgical Program last year under the guidance of cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kathy L. Rumer, who has already done more than 400 sex reassignment surgeries, officials from Hahnemann told the paper.
“These are complex procedures, so we want to ensure patients have access to compassionate, capable surgeons who can help make their transitions successful,” she said.
“Hahnemann University Hospital prides itself on being a pioneer in medical research and advancement,” Hahnemann CEO Michael P. Halter added. “Creating a Transgender Fellowship Training Program is the next chapter in continuing a legacy of excellence.”
Before being allowed into the program, surgical candidates will be required to first practice plastic or urological surgeries, according to the fellowship program.
Jess Ting, director of surgery and the surgical fellowship director at the Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York called out critics of the fellowship, claiming that there is historical ignorance regarding its concept.
“This specialty has been the illegitimate child of American medicine for many decades,” she said. “It existed on the fringes of ‘accepted medicine,’ and for many years no respectable hospital would allow transgender surgery to be done on its premises.
“The barriers, like social acceptance of being transgender, and the legitimacy of having gender-conforming surgery has all changed in recent years,” she added.
No, not really. In fact, most Americans — while accepting of others’ decisions to do what they want with their own bodies — are every bit as stigmatic about the concept of “transgenderism” as they’ve always been. (Related: The transgender programming of children is child abuse, warns the American College of Pediatricians... chemical castration, genital mutilation and mental illness run amok…)
And why? Because, quite frankly, it’s just not normal to assume you’re a different gender or to want to be a different gender. In fact, critics correctly note that nothing has really changed about “transgenderism” in general other than it has been embraced by the Left and is now being force-fed into American (and Western) culture, like the Left force-feeds every abnormal behavior in an attempt to ‘normalize’ it.
And now we’re supposed to believe that an entirely new surgical specialty is required because, you know, there’s so much demand for people switching sexes.
“When we have surgeons and psychiatrists blindly following the Left down the path of ‘Nothing is real, do whatever you want,’ people are going to get hurt,” noted Patriot News Daily in a piece critical of the Drexel University initiative.
“The studies are as clear as they can be: Sex change leads patients down an unhappy road of depression and suicide.”
That’s correct. A 2011 study published in the journal PLoS One found:
Persons with transsexualism, after sex reassignment, have considerably higher risks for mortality, suicidal behavior, and psychiatric morbidity than the general population. Our findings suggest that sex reassignment, although alleviating gender dysphoria, may not suffice as treatment for transsexualism, and should inspire improved psychiatric and somatic care after sex reassignment for this patient group.
In August, the Witherspoon Institute reaffirmed these earlier findings, pointing to the 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey, in which 40 percent of those who identify as transgender have attempted suicide.
Genes, it appears, are more potent and long-lasting than surgeries or mental ‘sex preferences,’ so exposing people to sex reassignment surgery rather than treating their underlying mental health issues will become, in some cases at least, a death sentence.
