(Natural News) When it comes to cannabis, we’re living in fascinating times of growth. More people than ever seem to be warming up to the concept of marijuana legalization, and the stigma that was once associated with the plant has been diminished substantially. Since cannabis is still illegal in many states, however, those who want to utilize the natural benefits of the plant may be forced to grow one in their own home.

Thankfully, growing marijuana at home is a relatively simple process that doesn’t require a considerable amount of effort.

For starters, you’ll want to invest in an HID (high-intensity discharge) lamp as well as a lighting fixture to ensure that it can be mounted safely. Then you’ll need a dark space where no light gets in — preferably a closet — in order to set up shop and grow your plant.

According to High Times, since cannabis is a flowering plant, “it bears its fruits only once a year, during the fall season when the daylight hours grow shorter.” In order to get the most out of your marijuana plant, you’ll need to prevent it from flowering too early. Allowing the plant to vegetate is vital in order to receive the best results. To do so, your marijuana needs to receive over 16 hours of light exposure every day, though up to 20 is preferred.

After this growth stage — which should last four to six weeks — begin the next step by cycling the plant on a 12 hours of light, 12 hours of dark schedule, which will trigger the flowering effect that allows the cannabis to bear its fruits. It is extremely important, however, that the plant be completely submerged in darkness during the alternate 12 hours. Any stream of light could upset the plant and disrupt the process.

Once the final step is complete, you’ll be able to enjoy your marijuana and all of its health benefits. It’s absurd that this is still illegal in most places, but the times are quickly changing — and knowledge is power.
