UN says parents who SPANK their children should be thrown in jail, but not parents who ABORT them

(NaturalNews) The authoritarian lefties who sit on the United Nations Committee on Human Rights have an odd way of showing love and respect for children.

Under the premise of advancing what the UN panel considers "human rights," members have recently released a report suggesting that the United Kingdom should pass laws that ban parents and teachers from spanking children, even when used as a form of discipline.

The New American noted that the UN report also recommended that the UK government launch a propaganda campaign funded by taxpayers aimed at ending corporal punishment for children that emphasizes alleged "harmful effects."

Meanwhile, the same panel – indeed, the UN in general – remains an ardent supporter of abortion. In fact, its report even advocated for more abortions as part of a broader list of demands that included additional UN treaties and agreements, increased media and public censorship, and other actions.

UN attacks the U.S. as well

The UK-focused report was not the first time that UN busybodies have criticized spanking and other forms of corporal punishment and called for it to be banned worldwide – to be replaced with UN-favored, UN-approved forms of discipline – and it's not likely to be the last.

Last year, a similar UN report actually called on the Obama administration to bypass the Constitution's limits on federal power and implement a nationwide ban of all corporal punishment, including mild spankings by parents in their own home as a form of discipline. The report also criticized the Second Amendment and American gun rights in general.

The UK-centered report was not met with much seriousness. Even the very pro-UN British government appeared to quickly distance itself from the report's "recommendations."

"Our policy on smacking is clear," a spokesperson for the UK government was quoted as saying by TNA. "We do not condone violence towards children. However, we do not wish to criminalize parents for issuing a mild smack."

In the report, which was authored by 18 "experts" from mostly authoritarian regimes, the recommendations made the UN panel's agenda clear.

"The Committee remains concerned that corporal punishment is still not fully outlawed in the home and certain educational and alternative care facilities in the United Kingdom and in almost all British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories," it says. "It is further concerned about the lack of explicit prohibition of corporal punishment in the home and the existing legal defenses of 'reasonable punishment' in England, Wales and Northern Ireland or 'justifiable assault' in Scotland."

Striking a balance?

What do the experts recommend?

"The State party should take practical steps, including through legislative measures where appropriate, to put an end to corporal punishment in all settings, including the home, throughout United Kingdom and all Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories, and repeal all existing legal defenses across the State party's jurisdiction," the UN report said. "It should encourage non-violent forms of discipline as alternatives to corporal punishment, and conduct public information campaigns to raise awareness about its harmful effects."

In other words, they want to launch a massive, taxpayer-funded propaganda campaign to inform UK parents how the UN wants them to raise their own children and then demonize all who disagree with those "recommendations."

Many criticized the report's brash attack on parental rights.

"There is an important issue of parental freedom at stake here," said Andrea Williams, who leads the UK non-profit organization Christian Concern, as quoted by TNA.

"A blanket ban on smacking would be a damaging invasion of government into family life. The law already prohibits physical injury to children," she continued. "The absence of discipline is detrimental to children's well-being. We need to strike the right balance. As long as parents operate within the current law, they should be free to discipline their children in the way they believe is in their children's best interest."

The message the UN is sending is that spanking should be criminalized, but abortion should be legal and occur as often as possible.
