Zika hoax: We are wasting $1.1 billion to fight the Zika virus

(NaturalNews) The Zika virus has been around for decades, and of all the contagious viruses spread by mosquitoes, this one is about as mild as it gets. Symptoms of Zika are so mild, in fact, that only about 1 in 5 people infected with it actually become ill.

So why are Congress and the White House set to spend more than a billion dollars of taxpayer money on "fighting" it? What's more, why is the mainstream media celebrating it? (The latter should be apparent: ignorance.)

The decision by Congress to approve a $1.1 billion Zika spending bill to fund a host of programs aimed at controlling this uber-mild virus is not something to be celebrated, as NPR is doing in this story. Rather, the publicly-funded "media" organization ought to be outraged like most Americans that another billion dollars will be spent by our broke government on a virus that isn't even a public health menace, let alone a real threat.

As the organization reported recently, Congress delayed funding a Zika measure for seven months, but wound up including the funding measure as part of a larger spending agreement to continue funding the government after the fiscal year ended Sept. 30 and the current budget expired.

Zika is no 'health emergency'

In reporting on the deal, NPR laid blame on both political parties – Democrats and Republicans – for "bickering" and "finger-pointing" during those months, delaying funding for what "all sides agree is a public health emergency."

What's worse, the "party of life" – the GOP – which controls Congress with majorities in the House and Senate, couldn't even preserve language in the bill that barred taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, the abortion provider caught selling body parts of aborted babies (and which then got away with it because the Obama administration wouldn't investigate). So not only will more babies die and have their parts harvested and sold, but taxpayers will also be forced to fund a phony "health emergency."

"Women's health should never be treated like a political football," said Sen.Patty Murry, D-Wash., with a straight face. "I am glad that Republicans finally agreed to set aside the extreme provisions that would have specifically blocked Planned Parenthood health care providers from accessing critical funding."

Yeah. Because protecting life and trying to uphold federal law that bans the sale of body parts is "extreme." Actually, supporting funding for that – and for battling Zika – is extremism.

According to Zika Virus Net, the virus is extremely mild and completely asymptomatic in most. The first well-documented case was in 1964, the site noted, even though the World Health Organization says the virus was first identified in monkeys in 1947. The 1964 case began with a mild headache and then progressed into a rash, fever and back pain. But within two days the rash was beginning to fade, and within three days the fever was completely gone.

Why do we need another vaccine?

Also missing from these early and subsequent cases, as reported by TruthWiki, are instances of microcephaly in newborns. With the 2015 outbreak, virologists and other health officials are now claiming that the historically mild virus is suddenly responsible for dozens of babies being born with abnormally small heads and brains.

TruthWiki notes that since Zika was discovered there have been a series of outbreaks and so-called "epidemics," but no birth defects were reported. So why are they being associated with Zika now?

Because part of the billion dollars in funding – $397 million – will go towards developing a vaccine for the virus.

A vaccine for a virus whose symptoms are less severe than those of the common cold.

When was the last time you heard of the government spending hundreds of millions of dollars to develop a vaccine for a virus that has no prior history of causing birth defects and doesn't even affect 4 out of 5 people who get it?

This "deal" is no deal at all for the American people who continue to watch their elected leaders declare everything under the sun an "emergency" that must be dealt with by spending billions of dollars the country doesn't have on non-existent health threats.
