Red China's attacks on critics of Mao parallel American media's attacks on critics of GMOs

Censorship

(NaturalNews) Modern-day China is seeing a resurgence of pro-communist sentiment that is manifesting itself as vicious attacks on bloggers, journalists, academics and others who are deemed disloyal to Maoist ideals. But there are striking similarities between this type of political suppression as it pertains to communism, which the mainstream media is denouncing, and the type of censorship and abuse that regularly occurs by the very same media against critics of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and biotechnology.

A recent report published in The New York Times (NYT) highlights a growing trend of support for Red China, which is underpinned by President Xi Jinping's own communist-leaning beliefs. The NYT describes the administration as having "declared open season" on all people of influence in China, whether they be artists or teachers, who are found to be lacking in support for the traditional red ideals of old.

Wang Congsheng, a law professor from Beijing, is a perfect example of the fallout from this political war against red dissidents. Congsheng was recently detained and suspended from teaching after posting online criticisms of the communist party, as was a newspaper columnist by the name of Wang Yaofeng, who vocalized support for democratic principles during recent protests in Hong Kong. Both men are now without a job, the victims of a hyper-controlling subset of Chinese society that refuses to tolerate dissidence.

"Since Xi came to power, the pressure and control over freethinkers has become really tight," stated Qiao Mu, a journalism professor from Beijing who himself was demoted last fall after publicly advocating for multi-party elections and free speech, to the NYT. "More and more of my friends and colleagues are experiencing fear and harassment."

US government just as bad as Red China in targeting opponents of GMOs, vaccines

Though perhaps not as forthcoming as the Chinese government and media in their hatred of free speech, U.S. authorities are engaging in a similar political war against dissidents of corporate agriculture, pharmaceuticals and vaccines. All of these are protected industries that, should anyone in science or academia question them, will likely result in ostracization or joblessness.

One of the more prominent cases of this is Dr. Andrew Wakefield, who was slandered, stripped of his professional title and betrayed by his colleagues for arriving at unpopular conclusions about the safety of the MMR vaccine. Dr. Wakefield's work was illicitly pulled from the British Medical Journal (BMJ), and the mainstream media, obeying its corporate masters, colluded to destroy Dr. Wakefield's reputation and career.

Similar cases of character assassination have taken place against scientists who were brave enough to publish data showing that GMOs cause cancer, organ damage and early death. Professor Gilles-Eric Seralini, whose study on GMO corn and glyphosate (Roundup) showed tumors and organ damage in rats that ate the "Frankenfeed," similarly had his study pulled and his character questioned.

Both men were falsely accused of fabricating data, which they most definitely did not, and the mainstream media jumped right onboard in viciously declaring their work to be fraudulent. Free thinkers and those who took the time to investigate each case more thoroughly were able to discern that both studies are, in fact, valid. But the general public is still none the wiser, having eaten up the propaganda without a second thought.

So before you jump on the bandwagon in condemning Red China for censoring and attacking its political opponents, consider that the U.S. government is doing the exact same thing as it concerns health and food freedom.
