(NaturalNews) College campuses have long been bastions of liberal thought, largely because most of them are being run by countercultural hippies who are veterans of the "civil rights battles" of the 1960s and 1970s. Even kids who come from largely moderate or conservative families have their values vanquished by the uber-liberalism of the modern college classroom.

Because after all, it's hip to be a compassionate liberal, even if you're not really very compassionate to your fellow citizens, many of whom -- seasoned by real-life experiences -- simply disagree with your university-bred idealism.

That said, it is still disturbing to be reminded of just how rampant and pervasive left-wing extremism has become on America's campuses of higher learning. One recent "in your face" example involved students of George Washington University, where two-thirds of students questioned supported a fake initiative to deport one American citizen in exchange for allowing one illegal alien to remain in the country (the irony should not be lost on you that this phony survey took place at an institution whose namesake was the first president of our new constitutional republic).

The phony survey was launched by student-reporters with Campus Reform, a news website focused on reporting cases of uber-left wing bias at colleges and universities.

"Please sign our petition for President Obama to deport one American citizen, in exchange for one undocumented immigrant," read the petition. "Everyone must be allowed a shot at the 'American Dream.' Americans should not be greedy. Let us right the wrongs of our past and make another's dreams come true."

"All for social justice"

"It makes sense," one student told Campus Reform. "Like, I've noticed that there is a lot of, like, hatred against undocumented immigrants and it's not necessarily their fault."

The student did not indicate whose "fault" it was that the alien was in the country illegally. And of course, children brought here illegally by parents who are now teens or adults are special cases whose status ought to be discussed, debated and decided by Congress. But it certainly is not the "fault" of any American citizen that they are in the country -- right?

Another student who supported the idea of deporting an American citizen to compensate for the admission of an illegal alien told Campus Reform, "Everyone deserves a shot and we shouldn't rule anyone out."

Well, no, not everyone -- just those we allow into our country -- right? And don't Americans, through their elected representatives, have a say in who should, and should not, be allowed in -- just like the citizens of virtually every other country on the planet?

After some consideration, Campus Reform reported, one female student decided that signing the petition was for the best, because it was in the name of social justice (whatever that means).

Didn't voters give the president a mandate?

"If somebody were to sign up for this program and they were going to go through all the effort to become this one undocumented immigrant then I think that's enough will power and enough desire, they should be able to come in," she said.

But -- only after deporting one American citizen in the process? Some consideration.

In November, just a few short weeks after voters overwhelmingly rejected President Obama's policies -- including his desire to enact amnesty for millions of illegal aliens, via executive action -- the president did so anyway, as if the will of the American people does not matter. When Obama and Democrats were elected en masse in 2008, the president said the people had spoken and given him a "mandate"; when they rejected his policies, he rejected their "mandate."

Americans are fair-minded and for the most part would back reasonable legislation that, over time, would a) provide a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens currently in the country, if b) real border security were made part of the deal -- so that we could know who is coming in.

Apparently, many on today's college campuses have a different solution -- though none of the students in the video offered to be one of the deported American citizens.
