(NaturalNews) I recently got to sit down with a 48-year-old man from Illinois who used to struggle with high blood pressure and overall hypertension. He remembers experiencing intermittent heart palpitations and episodes of intense heart racing when bending over and standing up quickly. About 15 years ago, his doctor had him on high blood pressure medication. The medication only eased the symptoms but never healed him. At one point, he recalls the medication making him feel worse. The list of side effects of these drugs is indeed long. He particularly remembers the drugs lisinopril, captopril and norvasc causing lethargy, dry cough and swollen lips. Over time, more doses were needed until, one day, he decided to take his health into his own hands.

Looking for a better way, he started to cut back on the prescription and started looking into his diet and lifestyle behaviors for answers. His journey back to health involved the discovery of simple health foods, seeds, roots and herbs that ultimately became a part of his daily lifestyle -- a regimen of natural healing and overall health maintenance.

He was happy to share with me his healing food protocol, which he follows six days a week. The protocol is not complicated or expensive by any means.

Seeds, roots, vegetables and algae fuel his day

In the morning, he eats 1/2 of a cup of oatmeal sweetened with stevia instead of refined sugars. He mixes his oatmeal with 2 tablespoons of raw organic honey, 2 tablespoons of flax seed and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. On the side, he eats two farm-fresh eggs.

Throughout the day, he eats small snacks. These include 1 cup of organic spinach, 1 organic carrot, 1 organic apple and 2 tablespoons of spirulina. He enjoys a 1/2 cup of various tree nuts which may include almonds, pecans or Brazil nuts.

He supplements this daily routine with a mixture of powdered herbs, roots and berries. These include 1 teaspoon each of the following: hawthorn berry, turmeric root, oat straw, catuaba bark and Eleutherococcus root (Siberian ginseng).

Staying hydrated with clean water

To keep himself hydrated, he drinks 120 ounces or more of clean water, which is filtered by activated charcoal filters. This ensures that his water is free of pesticides, heavy metals, endocrine disrupters and runoff medications.

Throughout the day, he also likes to drink 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with the mother intact. This allows for better absorption of nutrients and digestion.

Vitamin D is also important to him. He intentionally gets a minimum of 30 minutes of sun exposure each day. He also supplements with vitamin D3 at 6,000 IU.

Important behavioral changes

When I asked him what his most important behavioral change was for healing his heart, he responded, "Managing stress better. It's easier to manage stress when you are eating herbs that promote nervous system health."

He talked about the importance of consciously breathing deeply throughout the day to reduce stress levels. At the end of the day, he uses a full-body inverter to exercise his lymphatic system.

When I asked him what are the top five things he now avoids to maintain his health, he responded by saying he is not perfect but for the most part he avoids "aspartame, MSG, corn syrup, processed food in general and fast food."

Today, the 48-year-old man says he feels better than he ever has in his life. He takes no medication and is free from the hypertension, palpitations and pain that used to haunt him.
