University apologizes for censoring First Amendment rights of students who oppose abortion

(NaturalNews) Donna Lake, an administrator from the University of Alabama, took down a student group's pro-life display on February 12th. She told the group that they are "lucky" to have been allowed to have the display up for as long as it was.

Apparently, this administrator is an authoritarian who is very selective when it comes to picking and choosing what information can be presented in the campus halls. Under her watch, not all students can speak honestly and openly about what is important to them.

It's no wonder that her taking down of the pro-life group's display has become the center of controversy at Alabama University.

The sad part is that the administrator wants to turn a blind eye toward the facts on abortion in America today. Instead, she believes in the institution's right to silence the truth and make sure that all suitable information gets her approval first. The facts on abortion in America are something she clearly can't face, so taking the information down and making threats is her way of dealing with reality.

But the Students for Life group from the University of Alabama have not caved in to the administration's intimidation. Although their displays were taken down on campus, the group refused to surrender their freedom of speech.

University of Alabama apologizes to students for censoring them

That's why the school's administrators are now scrambling to apologize and vow to put the pro-life display back up.

According to new reports, the university has apologized for their blatant censorship. Carl Bacon, Assistant to the Vice President for Collaboration and Director of Ferguson Center Student Union, sent the following email to Students for Life:

Dear Bama Students for Life,

Please accept my apology that your display was removed without your knowledge two days before your reserved time expired. You have two options available to you to complete your 30-day reservation. The same display case will be available for two days starting February 22nd, or the case between the SGA office and the office of the Dean of Students is available this week for two days. Please let me know which option you would like to choose.

Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, stated to the press, "Today is an historic victory for pro-life students nationwide. Because of the courage of Bama Students for Life and the dedication of grassroots pro-life activists across America, the University of Alabama has apologized for censoring our constitutional rights. This should be a clear lesson for universities across the nation -- pro-life students will not tolerate unjust actions and censorship because of our beliefs."

On February 19th, campus advisor Patrick Mahoney is set to speak on campus about the case, as the group sets their display back up in the university. Their courageous stand may help others begin to value life and the responsibility of protecting life in the US and around the world.

Group's pro-life display enlightens public about abortion truths rarely talked about in the mainstream

The group's display, initially deemed "offensive" by administrator Lake, featured clean-cut facts on abortion in America and real-life photos of babies who'd had their lives taken from them.

They additionally demonstrated that abortions are not even safe for the mother, documenting cases of mother and child deaths in abortion procedures.

The group also looks at abortion from a big-picture standpoint. Their display reported on the tremendous spike in the abortion rate since it became lawfully endorsed.

On the display, they show how the amount of abortion deaths could fill an average campus stadium 550 times over. These numbers alone should startle any humanitarian or even those who consider abortion a mere choice.

Federally funded abortions aren't just about choice

Abortion is more than just a choice for expectant mothers. It's a matter of life and death for a person that could be. It's a deeply emotional decision that affects both the mother and her partner for the rest of their lives.

The federal funding of abortion endorses the process, herding decisions toward abortion, rather than teaching against it. This process takes the public's money and redistributes it toward these invasive procedures that seem to be the only way out for some. But abortion is not the way out. The federal funding of it is not about protecting a woman's privacy; instead, it paves the way for lifelong damaged emotions and the genocide of people who could be here with us today.

If we cannot respect life and protect it as a collective, then what morals, what dignity, do we have?

Any effort to protect life and provide factual, self-empowering information about abortion should not be silenced but instead taught openly and made publicly available.
