(NaturalNews) Despite his gun control rhetoric, President Obama has been the best thing for the
gun industry since the early first-term days of President Bill Clinton and his "assault weapons ban."
According to the most recent data from the FBI, there have been 72,005,482 background checks for gun purchases since Obama took office in January 2009. That year, the FBI conducted 14,033,824 checks; if you subtract the month of January, since the president did not take office until the 20th of the month, you get the figure of 12,819,939.
In the years since, the FBI has conducted 14,409,616 background checks in 2010, 16,454,951 in 2011, and 19,592,303 in 2012. When you add in the first four months of 2013 - January 1 through April 30, the most up-to-date period for data (2,495,440, 2,309,393, 2,209,407 and 1,714,433 respectively) - the final tally is 72,005,482.
Next, some basic math.
As of May 2, Obama has been in office 1,550 days. That works out to 46,455 background checks for gun purchases daily.
Now, having said that, not every check results in an actual sale. But, by the FBI's own figures,
the vast majority do.
More guns, less availability
In January 2013,
McClatchy Papers reported:
In the four years since Barack Obama was first elected president in November 2008, an estimated 67 million firearms have been purchased in the United States. That's more than were sold in almost seven years before his first election.Clearly, the American people are arming themselves at an alarming rate - a rate that has never been seen in modern history. Talk of new
gun control laws, total bans on some makes and models of firearms and, in some dark quarters, even of gun
confiscation, has led to severe shortages on ammunition and year-long backlogs for gunmakers.
"We were pretty good up until three or four weeks ago, but now we've pretty much run out," Todd Edmiston, owner of A&S Indoor Pistol Range in Youngwood, near Pittsburgh, Pa., said last month.
"We're still getting stuff in every day or two, but where we were getting cases at a time months ago, now we're talking boxes. It might be six boxes, eight boxes, 20 boxes. We take whatever we can get," he told
TribLive.com.
As
Natural News editor and founder Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, reported way back in January, even police departments are having trouble finding enough ammunition to both carry on duty and use for training [

'You can't find anything
More than a year ago, in March 2012, Sturm, Ruger & Co. was backlogged by
1 million firearms, and as such temporarily suspended taking any new orders whatsoever [

"I've never seen anything quite like this," Eric Scheirer of Bethel Park, Pa., who runs the practical shooting competitions at McDonald Sportsmen's Club. "There have been election years when maybe one gun or one item or one caliber became an issue and that made it hard to find. But this time around, you can't find anything. It's just ridiculous."
Gun makers and ammunition plants are working overtime and adding capacity, as the American nation continues to arm itself at a record pace.
