(NewsTarget) Cordyceps is one of the rarest plants used in herbal treatments and medicines. Although unrecognized by western medicine until approximately 20 years ago, it has been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. Its benefits include protecting the liver, helping prevent tumours and even increasing sexual libido.

Cordyceps contains a host of vitamins including Vitamin E, Vitamin B-complex and Vitamin K. It also contains all essential amino acids, fatty acids, carbohydrates and nucleosides (which are needed to produce DNA).

Studies carried out at the Beijing Medical University showed that 64% of men and 90% of women who had previously suffered from impotence benefited greatly from using this herb. It is a tonic that is able to help prevent aging, build strength and improve the immune system and organ functioning. In another study, it was discovered that patients who took just 3 grams of Cordyceps a day experienced less shortness of breath and a significant reduction in fatigue levels.

Cordyceps has also been shown to improve blood circulation, strengthen the cardiovascular system, regulate blood pressure, improve the quality of one`s sleep, lower blood sugar levels, improve mental alertness and fight infertility. Cordycepin (a compound found in Cordyceps) is able to inhibit the division and growth of cancer cells. It also has anti-inflammatory properties.

This wonder fungus is also excellent for improving liver and kidney functions and alleviating symptoms of respiratory illnesses such as asthma and bronchitis. Studies have also shown that Cordyceps is able to lower triglycerides by between 9 and 26% and to increase HDL (good) cholesterol levels by between 27 and 30%. Those suffering from cognitive dysfunction can benefit greatly from using this herb as well.

During yet another study, it was revealed that elderly patients who used Cordyceps on a daily basis discovered that they didn`t feel cold as easily as they did before using it. Further studies showed that it is able to increase Natural Killer (NK) cells. These are the body`s first line of defence against illness and infection. In healthy individuals, levels of these cells increased by 74%; whereas, patients who were suffering from leukaemia and melanoma experienced a staggering 400% increase in these infection-fighting cells after using this herb.
