(NaturalNews) From August 14-17, 2010, Montesuenos, a center for peace, sustainability, the arts and new science in Vilcabamba, Ecuador, will be hosting Crisis and Opportunity 2010: An Innovators' Symposium. The symposium will feature various speakers, film viewings and discussions, addressing ways in which to develop sustainable solutions for utilizing renewable resources, while preserving and renewing the environment.

Coming on the heels of the Gulf oil disaster, the symposium will focus on shifting energy production away from oil and towards clean, renewable energy technologies, both in Ecuador and around the world. And since Ecuador has seen its share of oil spills, including the massive Chevron-Texaco spill back in the early 1990s, there is no time like the present to push for energy alternatives that will protect the precious natural resources in that country.

One of Montesuenos' specific goals with the symposium is to stop extensive oil drilling plans for the Western Amazon rainforest, one of the last remaining, and most bio-diverse, rainforests in the world. By gathering together some of the best minds in the world to develop alternative energy strategies, symposium organizers hope to turn creative ideas into action.

Speakers will include world-class inventors, Ecuadorian environmental, governmental and non-governmental (NGO) representatives. Gunter Pauli, author of The Blue Economy: 10 Years, 100 Innovations, 100 Million Jobs, will be presenting, as will Dr. Brian O'Leary, author and scientist, and many others. Various meals throughout the event will be prepared by Master Chef Yasu.

Several of the presenters will be meeting with Ecuadorian government officials in Quito on August 19 to share what is covered during the symposium, so if you choose to attend, you will have the opportunity to play a direct role in helping to craft the very policies that could revolutionize the world's approach to energy production.

The four-day event costs $35 per day, or $120 for all four days, and this covers the costs of food and the presenters' travel expenses.
