Here's a typical closeup of this Hillshire Farm Yard-O-Beef processed meat product. It shows a blob of some sort of fat-looking element that appears to be cutting loose from its "meat cave." One look at this picture makes you realize why they call this "processed meat." It's made of various parts of meat from numerous animals. Some processed beef products can contain meat parts from as many as one hundred different cows. (We're not sure how many cow parts are found in this particular brand, but you can definitely tell it's a blend, no?)

Processed meat is to steak as plywood is to solid oak. Meat processors just take whatever bits and chunks of meat they can get to pass USDA inspection, then blend them up with fat, spices and chemical additives to create various beef products. It's all 100% legal and USDA approved.
