Pomegranate and Blueberry Juice Consumer Shopping Guide

The FruitSimple brand is owned by Sunny Delight Beverages Co., and it's being rolled out in the Southwest USA and Spain right now. If successful, it will be rolled out across North America and selected countries. But is the product any good?

The packaging is outstanding: It's colorful, energetic and downright sexy. The front label of this particular product claims, "FruitSimple Pomegranate Blueberry - 100% Pure - no sugar added." It's 40 oz. and I paid $3.99 at the local grocery store.

On the right, you can see the ingredients list. This tells you right away that there's something wrong with the labeling on this product:

Apple juice from concentrate, apple puree from concentrate, pomegranate juice from concentrate, lemon juice from concentrate, blueberry juice from concentrate, fruit juice and extract for color, natural flavors

In other words, the first two ingredients are apple juice and apple puree. A quick glance on the side panel of this product (which you'll see in the next picture) shows that it contains 9 apples but only 1/2 of a pomegranate fruit! In other words, the ratio of apple fruits to pomegranate fruits is an astonishing 18:1!

Given this simple fact, it seems the product should be named "Apple smoothie" with a hint of pomegranate. The whole drink only contains 16 blueberries, by the way, and blueberries are quite small.

Also note the picture on the label of this product: It shows pomegranates, blueberries and leaves. Notably, it shows no apples. In my opinion, this is visually deceptive. The name of the product is also deceptive, in my opinion, since it focuses on pomegranates and blueberries, not apples.
