Dairy Bosses Sentenced to Death over China Melamine ScandalBy Mike Adams, January 23, 2009 | Key concepts: Melamine, China and Death sentence Tian Wenhua, the former general manager and chairwoman of Sanlu Group Co. has been sentenced to death by a Chinese court for her role in the tainted milk powder scandal that poisoned tens of thousands of children and caused the world's trust in Chinese-made products to dwindle.The court also sentenced melamine mastermind Zhang Yujun to death for his role in producing the melamine and selling it to the Sanlu dairy company. Three more Sanlu executives were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 5 to 15 years. All these people thought they were going to get rich by watering down their milk products with a chemical poison that would harm potentially millions of babies. Interestingly, their utter disregard of the safety of their customers for the sake of personal profit reflects the profit focus of western capitalism: Make more money, whatever it takes! The death sentences demonstrate China's "get serious" attitude about halting food crimes. Although I personally don't agree with the death sentence, I am glad that China is cracking down on chemical crimes committed by large corporations. In America, such crimes are either ignored or rewarded (consider Big Pharma, Monsanto, DuPont, etc.) and nobody goes to jail. In a few days, six new kidneys will be available through China's organ transplantation black market. None of them are tainted with melamine. Click to read: |
