Big Pharma Intentionally Blocks Introduction of Cheaper Drugs to Financially Exploit NationsBy Mike Adams, November 30, 2008 | Key concepts: Big Pharma, Generic drugs and Drug companies A 10-month European Commission investigation has concluded that drug companies intentionally interfered with the introduction of cheaper drugs in order to financially exploit European nations. The EC is now planning to launch anti-trust proceedings against the companies involved in the scam, which include GlaxoSmithKline.1) They PAID generic drug manufacturers to DELAY the introduction of their drugs, effectively buying off the competition and limiting consumers to monopoly-priced drugs. 2) The filed patent litigation as a delaying tactic, tying up generic pharmaceuticals in years of court proceedings in order to keep them off the market. 3) They filed pre-emptive patents on their own drugs, specifically designed to block the entry of generic drugs. 4) They actively interfered with government approval processes for generic drugs by pressuring lawmakers and government employees to slow the approval process and "drag out" the paperwork. Of course, Big Pharma claims this is all in the best interests of consumers, because they need all these profits in order to find tomorrow's cures. It's all nonsense, of course: Drug companies care about just one thing: Their bottom line profits. And if they can do anything to interfere with the introduction of cheaper generic drugs, they will do so, even if it costs nations billions of dollars in unnecessary medical expenditures. It's about time that nations realized Big Pharma isn't an industry that helps people; it's an industry that exploits people. If a drug company could earn a trillion dollars by releasing a deadly virus into the population and then treating people with expensive vaccines, you can bet your last dollar they'd do it. Far from the public image these drug companies attempt to portray, with them profits come first, and patients come last. Their actions, after all, speak for themselves. Click to read: |
