(NaturalNews) The kidnapping of children by Child Protection Services has become all too common in recent years. Often, the removal of children from their homes is completely unjustified and carried out for the flimsiest of reasons.
Such is the case concerning Angela Borths, a caring mother whose three young children have been taken into custody by Oregon CPS authorities. Borths has been accused of "medical neglect," a very serious-sounding charge, and one which seems totally unfounded when one examines the details involved in the decision.
In fact, the removal of the children is apparently based largely on the assumption that her children are too short. Never mind that Angela is of small stature herself -- not quite five feet tall -- and that this is surely due to genetics; her pediatrician has decided that her six-year-old daughter's short height is due to a "failure to thrive."
In other words, the daughter's height is somehow the mother's fault.
The decision to remove the children was also apparently based on the fact that, while Angela was without health coverage for two months because of the problems with the Obamacare website, one of her other children missed a doctor's appointment. Like millions of other Americans, Angela Borths had problems getting through the system to obtain renewal of her coverage.
During the two-month lapse in her coverage, Angela missed one scheduled neurologist appointment for her son, but continued to fill her son's prescription -- paying for it out of her own pocket.
But the harassment of Borths by CPS authorities goes back further. She has been subjected to an ongoing nightmare in which it seems that the CPS has looked for any excuse to question her parenting ability.
The first incident involved her first
child who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a genetic condition. Borths was charged with medical neglect, even though the disease could not have been caused by any action or lack of such on the mother's part. She subsequently lost custody to the child's father, who moved out of the state.
Then, in 2012, when Borths and her family were living with her mother, her
children tested positive for lead in their systems. The older home they were residing in had lead paint on the walls, unbeknownst to the occupants. Angela was charged with child abuse, and although the case was eventually closed, the allegations remained on the books.
Next, in 2013, Borths' nine-year-old son was diagnosed with a mild form of epilepsy, one that is typically outgrown when a person reaches adulthood. Due to lack of coordination between the child's neurologist, who excused the child from school, and the pediatrician, who did not, CPS was again called in to intervene.
During this period, Angela voluntarily submitted to a drug test which resulted in a false positive for methamphetamine in her system. The false positive was triggered by the fact that she was taking both Benadryl and Sudafed (under a doctor's recommendation) for a stuffy nose -- this combination caused the false positive result.
Angela was charged with "drug use and educational neglect," and her children were removed from her care. Once again, when the facts were revealed -- after an appeal and 14 clean drug test results -- the children were returned home.
Now, the complaint against
Angela Borths revolves around the "short stature" of her daughter. Her pediatrician again called in CPS, and a judge has "rubber-stamped" an approval for removing all three of her children from her care.
One would think that, after all the scrutiny of the mother and the fact that every previous charge against her has been dismissed, the CPS authorities would finally recognize that Angela is a fit mother. She doesn't drink, has never used drugs and has never been involved in any criminal activity.
So why the continued harassment and the loss of custody of her three kids?
Angela believes that she is being targeted because she herself spent part of her childhood under foster care. And, according to
Health Impact News, which posted Angela's story on their MedicalKidnap.com website, Borths is not the first person to report that "being in foster care as a child has put her in the crosshairs of CPS when raising her own children."
And that -- as I'm sure you'll agree if you think about it for a moment -- is a cruelly ironic twist...
