(NaturalNews) Tasmania, the "Island State" just off the coast of Melbourne, Australia, has a population of half-a-million people and includes 26,000 square miles of land. They have continued their ban on ALL things GMO until 2019, seeing "no imperative to change" from eating normal, nutritious food that doesn't cause cancer to pesticide-laden agriculture that does, according to the state government, which is opting to extend their already longstanding ban. A bill tabled in the House of Assembly in late August has the support of the main farming body of Tasmania, and the beekeepers, of course. This is all thanks to the REAL science findings taken into account from last year's review, which looked at over 150 public submissions and NEW research. The Government there believes in the "commonsense approach that strikes an appropriate balance between the needs of today and the possibilities of tomorrow."
The first sign of plight with GM agriculture is when bees start dying off in mass amounts. Bees are like the canary in the coal mine succumbing to carbon monoxide, except the bees' poisons are comprised of toxic herbicides, insecticides and even toxic fertilizers. Last January, the former state government announced that the ban on GM food crops in Tasmania would be indefinite, indicating that the new five-year ban was a little more liberal.
This all comes at a cost to GMO/Biotech companies, which will have less cancer clients (Big Pharma ties here) and no control of seeds and herbicide sales. The impact on the farmers is that they won't have to worry about getting cancer while tending their crop and they won't be fueling the development of cancers when they sell their food to the people of their country. Still, farmers will be open to developing technologies that help with growing natural food that isn't toxic, meaning they don't reject science in general.
Beekeepers said a five-year continuation of the
ban would provide the industry with certainty. They were referring to the "certainty" that, by avoiding gene insertion of pesticides in seeds, their food won't cause disease.
GMO-Free Status Makes Honey Markets Lucrative!
Lucrative European markets love the Tasmanian GMO-free status, because it furthers the clean, green image and gives greater security around the world for those products. This provides for long-term investments, employment and marketing opportunities galore. So much for Biotech's (false) claims about feeding the world!
The leader of the Tasmanian Greens political party, Nick McKim, says the government should implement a permanent ban on all GM crops. McKim told ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) Local Radio
that the ban works! He goes on to say, "We're getting access in the agriculture sector now to markets that we wouldn't otherwise have access to because of our GMO free status."
Of course, Biotech shills say
Tasmania can't remain competitive without "access to GMO technology" -- which means "please buy our poisonous crop science and 'get you some' Obamacare, while you're at it." Republicans and Democrats alike in the US know all about lobbyist monies from supporting Biotech and the FDA reign of terror on US food.
Dairy, Corn, Soy and Beef Industries are often pushed on island states and small countries that might not know the difference. In the case of Tasmania, the ploy doesn't work and pigs still don't fly. Glyphosate, artificial growth hormones and worm killer isn't exactly part of the "competitive" playbook for the truly natural agricultural industry of Tasmania. Go figure. Tasmania, rather, is looking into energy gains for rye grass and boosts in productivity gained from natural food. They don't want to harm their branding and reputation with GMO, which is dangerous and has been shown in recent studies to cause
horrific tumors in rats that die early.
