HOAX confirmed: Michelle Obama 'GMOs for children' campaign a parody of modern agricultural politics

Michelle Obama

(NaturalNews) The Michelle Obama GMO story that went viral Friday has been confirmed as a hoax, and that means we owe the First Lady an apology for the error in reporting. But there's an interesting silver lining in all this: the massive public backlash that sprang from the report confirms once and for all just how much the U.S. population is opposed to feeding their children GMOs.

The original story claimed that Michelle Obama had endorsed a new Monsanto campaign that would develop "healthy GMOs" for children. As ridiculous as that sounds to everyone, it was no more ridiculous than some of the other news we hear out of the White House these days, so it sounded credible. Natural News first saw the headline on another credible news source, and then we quoted two news sources and added an analysis. Within minutes, however, we updated the story to indicate a possible hoax, and now we've corrected the story.

The interesting thing about all this is that Michelle Obama has gone part-way toward recommending healthy foods, but she's never endorsed organics (which would be non-GMO). So she's got one foot in the realm of conventional GMO agriculture, and one foot in home gardening and healthy foods. Her school lunch program reforms, although launched with positive intentions, bombed. And with all the Monsanto ties to the Obama administration, it sure wasn't a stretch to believe the First Lady might be recommending some sort of children's nutrition public relations campaign related to Monsanto.

What the hoax story really brought up, however, was a healthy debate about all the existing connections between government and the biotech industry. It also reminded people of the dangers of GMOs and glyphosate, some of which is described in more detail here.

Deadly toxins in every seed

GM corn produces deadly toxins linked to massive cancer tumors in rat experiments.

The chemical sprayed on GM crops -- glyphosate -- is also linked to wildly destructive environmental effects as well as huge increases in human cancer.

As Natural News previously reported:

A team of researchers from both Germany and Egypt, publishing their findings in the Journal of Environmental & Analytical Toxicology, discovered that animals fed GM feed had much higher levels of glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup herbicide, in their urine and organs than animals fed non-GM or organic feed.

...Glyphosate directly interferes with the body's P450 enzymes, which are responsible for modulating the synthesis of sex steroid hormones in the body. It is also believed that this inhibition results in the synergistic disruption of the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids by gut bacteria, resulting in a variety of health conditions including gastrointestinal damage, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, dementia and cancer.

"[G]enotoxic [gene-damaging] activity, teratogenic [physiology-damaging] activity, and disturbance of the normal gut bacterial community due to glyphosate are reported," added the researchers.

The following photo shows the scientifically-documented results of feeding rats GMOs or exposing them to glyphosate. Notice the massive tumors? That's what GMOs may be doing to America's children:

Huge boom for the cancer industry

The cancer industry depends on more cancer for its repeat business. That's why the industry never talks about how to cure cancer or prevent cancer. This popular documentary -- Cancer is Curable NOW -- reveals the truth that the cancer industry refuses to acknowledge or share.

Monsanto is also blamed for causing all the following 10 problems as outlined at Listverse.com (1)

* The rise of superbugs and superweeds
* Deaths of bees and butterflies
* Inability for farmers to harvest seeds
* Genetic contamination of non-GMO crops
* Criminalizing farmers whose fields are contaminated
* Huge increase in farmer suicides due to GM crop failures
* Striking lack of government oversight or safety
* Revolving door ("fascism") between government and biotech industry
* Harming biodiversity and collapsing the seed supply
* Distracting focus from permaculture and more Earth-friendly approaches to producing food

About the author:Mike Adams (aka the "Health Ranger") is a best selling author (#1 best selling science book on Amazon.com) and a globally recognized scientific researcher in clean foods. He serves as the founding editor of NaturalNews.com and the lab science director of an internationally accredited (ISO 17025) analytical laboratory known as CWC Labs. There, he was awarded a Certificate of Excellence for achieving extremely high accuracy in the analysis of toxic elements in unknown water samples using ICP-MS instrumentation. Adams is also highly proficient in running liquid chromatography, ion chromatography and mass spectrometry time-of-flight analytical instrumentation.

Adams is a person of color whose ancestors include Africans and Native American Indians. He's also of Native American heritage, which he credits as inspiring his "Health Ranger" passion for protecting life and nature against the destruction caused by chemicals, heavy metals and other forms of pollution.

Adams is the founder and publisher of the open source science journal Natural Science Journal, the author of numerous peer-reviewed science papers published by the journal, and the author of the world's first book that published ICP-MS heavy metals analysis results for foods, dietary supplements, pet food, spices and fast food. The book is entitled Food Forensics and is published by BenBella Books.

In his laboratory research, Adams has made numerous food safety breakthroughs such as revealing rice protein products imported from Asia to be contaminated with toxic heavy metals like lead, cadmium and tungsten. Adams was the first food science researcher to document high levels of tungsten in superfoods. He also discovered over 11 ppm lead in imported mangosteen powder, and led an industry-wide voluntary agreement to limit heavy metals in rice protein products.

In addition to his lab work, Adams is also the (non-paid) executive director of the non-profit Consumer Wellness Center (CWC), an organization that redirects 100% of its donations receipts to grant programs that teach children and women how to grow their own food or vastly improve their nutrition. Through the non-profit CWC, Adams also launched Nutrition Rescue, a program that donates essential vitamins to people in need. Click here to see some of the CWC success stories.

With a background in science and software technology, Adams is the original founder of the email newsletter technology company known as Arial Software. Using his technical experience combined with his love for natural health, Adams developed and deployed the content management system currently driving NaturalNews.com. He also engineered the high-level statistical algorithms that power SCIENCE.naturalnews.com, a massive research resource featuring over 10 million scientific studies.

Adams is well known for his incredibly popular consumer activism video blowing the lid on fake blueberries used throughout the food supply. He has also exposed "strange fibers" found in Chicken McNuggets, fake academic credentials of so-called health "gurus," dangerous "detox" products imported as battery acid and sold for oral consumption, fake acai berry scams, the California raw milk raids, the vaccine research fraud revealed by industry whistleblowers and many other topics.

Adams has also helped defend the rights of home gardeners and protect the medical freedom rights of parents. Adams is widely recognized to have made a remarkable global impact on issues like GMOs, vaccines, nutrition therapies, human consciousness.

In addition to his activism, Adams is an accomplished musician who has released over a dozen popular songs covering a variety of activism topics.
