(NaturalNews) Before heading off to the dentist to have cavities drilled and filled, save your hard-earned cash and use nutrition to heal dental caries instead. Following the wisdom of traditional diets, and the observations of Weston A. Price, teeth can be strengthened without resorting to dangerous and costly dental procedures.
"The Isaac Newton of Nutrition"
Dr. Weston A. Price was a Cleveland dentist in the 1900s who was intrigued with the root cause of dental decay and physical degeneration. Traveling the world, he documented groups of individuals who had exceptional teeth and strong bodies. According to the Weston A. Price Foundation, "Wherever he went, Dr. Price found that beautiful straight teeth, freedom from decay, stalwart bodies, resistance to disease and fine characters were typical of primitives on their traditional diets, rich in essential food factors."
When Dr. Price analyzed the diets of these isolated groups, he discovered that they contained at least four times the minerals, as well as over ten times the fat-soluble vitamins, as a standard Western diet. What's more, when the indigenous people veered away from traditional food and chose typical Western fare, dental health, vitality and resistance to illness declined. In light of these findings, Dr. Price is known as the "Isaac Newton of Nutrition."
Modern uses for a traditional diet
If we want to have strong teeth and robust health, it would be wise to consider the dietary recommendations of Dr. Price. Using the framework of a traditional
diet, a tooth- and bone-strengthening diet contains:
- Animal foods (bone broth, eggs, fish, meat)
- An abundance of vegetables (especially leafy greens)
- Raw dairy (milk, kefir, cheese, butter)
- Plenty of vitamin D (either from sunshine or 5,000 IU/day vitamin D3)
- Healthy fats (coconut oil, avocado, fermented cod liver oil)
- Sprouted nuts, seeds and beans
The diet should also include low amounts of fresh fruit, restricted consumption of fermented grains and absolutely NO processed, sugary, packaged or fast food.
Moreover, it's important to ensure the diet is rich in
vitamin K (pastured butter, parsley, kale, spinach, mustard greens, collards and cilantro),
phosphorus (pumpkin seeds, meat, Romano cheese, salmon, Brazil nuts and whey) and
silica (bamboo, nettles, oat straw, horsetail, cucumbers, leeks, onions and celery). For the ultimate benefit, focus on organic produce, as well as pastured dairy, eggs and meat. Lastly, Katie at
