Breaking: Two Colorado state senators recalled from office in huge victory for democracy

(NaturalNews) It was precisely the kind of story which honors those who were killed on Sept. 11, 2001 - a dozen years later, on the same day, news broke that democratic republicanism remains alive and well in America.

Because of their staunch and arrogant gun control votes, two Colorado senators, both of them Democrats, have become the first in the state's history to be recalled by voters.

Two Colorado Democrats who provided crucial support for a package of state gun laws were voted out of office on Tuesday in special elections seen as a test of whether swing-state voters would accept gun restrictions after mass shootings at a Colorado movie theater and a Connecticut elementary school.

Angela Giron of Pueblo and John Morse of Colorado Springs have been replaced by pro-gun Republicans in a stunning rebuke of abject progressive liberalism - by common-sense Coloradans who know that idiotic and repressive gun laws do nothing to curb gun violence, but do plenty to leave residents more vulnerable and at risk.

Not to mention the unconstitutional aspect of gun control.

Morse, who was the Senate president, will be replaced by Bernie Herpin, a Republican former city councilman from Colorado Springs.

"A range of philanthropists, liberal political groups, unions and activists raised a total of $3 million to defend Mr. Morse and Ms. Giron. Mr. Bloomberg personally gave $350,000," the Times said.

But here is the most encouraging aspect of this week's stunning recount victories for constitutionalists and lovers of liberty: "Organizers say it began locally, in living rooms and backyards, as a response to new gun-control laws that were the marquee achievements of Colorado's new Democratic majorities," said the Times.

"We'd never been to a rally or town halls," said Victor Head, a plumber in Pueblo who borrowed money from his grandmother to kick-start the recall against Giron. "We'd never done much politically other than voting."

The Denver Post reported that Giron was replaced by Pueblo deputy police chief George Rivera.

"This election has been about holding our elected officials accountable," Rivera said in a statement following Giron's concession speech, in which she arrogantly defended her gun control votes (which just goes to show you she was representing her own selfish interests when she cast those votes, not those of her constituents - who just kicked her out of office).

"The voters of Pueblo have sent a strong message. We are the voice of democracy," Rivera added. "We've definitely learned a lot about campaigning. The biggest thing I've learned is that the people are all good people with different points of view. It's the politics and the politicians who make the whole thing dirty."

Giron was ousted 56-44 percent; Morse by less, two percentage points. But ousted he was, nonetheless.

The Post reported that Giron was "stunned" by her loss.

'We will win in the end' - not

"We couldn't have done any more," she told a crowd of about 50 people Tuesday night, down from close to 200 in what many believed would become a victory party.

"I'm a little perplexed. This is what I know: I know that I have not one iota of regret from what I voted on," she said.

"This is only going to make us stronger and better. We will win in the end, because we are on the right side."

Apparently not, at least according to the constituents in her district.

Only 19 of the 50 states allow recall votes for elected leaders, but in a time when the ruling class on both the national and state levels are at the pinnacle of hubris, regularly ignoring the will of those they were elected to serve, the recall movement is one of a few tools voters have left in the arsenal of democracy to insist they be heard regarding the governance of the country.
