(NaturalNews) It's bad enough that big government statists are trying to take away your Bill of Rights, hide what goes into your foods, poison you with vaccines, run your healthcare, tax you into poverty, spend the country into oblivion and micromanage virtually every aspect of your life. Now, they think your kids belong to them also.
At least, that is the opinion of
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry, who taped a commercial for the network in which she says your kids don't belong to you, but rather are wards of the common collective.
"We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we've always had kind of a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven't had a very collective notion of these are our children," she says during a spot for the network's "Lean Forward" campaign - a left-wing propaganda effort that would have made Karl Marx proud. "So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents, or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to whole communities."
Turn your kids over to us
Maybe in some old-school hippie commune or better yet, in China, whose government manages family size. But not in America, Melissa. Our kids are
ours, and if you're smart, you and those who think like you will keep your hands off of them.
Unfortunately, nothing a statist says is "new" because when it comes to in-your-face statism, there is simply nothing new under the sun. Those who were around when Hillary Clinton was first lady will remember well her socialist tome, "It Takes A Village," in which she essentially pushes the notion that the world surrounding your
child - not you as parent and primary caregiver - does and should drive your child's development. Only someone who wants to control your child's destiny, thoughts and their political and social attitudes would believe such a thing.
Needless to say, such inane and unconventional notions of child-rearing in America have drawn heaps of criticism - then and now - and rightly so.
"The notion that
children belong to a state government rather than their own flesh and blood is the most disturbing statement made in recent political times. Melissa Harris-Perry is dead wrong. It's unfathomable that any true American could make such a pretentious and naively ill statement," media communications expert, and parent, Angie Olszewski told
FOX411's "Pop Tarts" column. "The government can't properly run their own budgets, schools and public systems. Why would anybody think they could rear children?"
Well, "they" don't want to "rear them." They want to
control them.
'Spooky'
Tim Graham, the
Media Research Center's director of Media Analysis, called Harris-Perry's statement "frightening."
"It's bad enough that 'Lean Forward' already sounds like an ad for Mao's Little Red Book, then to have your network's hosts talk about your children being part of the Collective is just spooky," he said. "I think most
parents disappoint
MSNBC with their traditional beliefs that their children are theirs to love and raise as they feel is best. They don't want to surrender their parental rights to the 'village.' It's this same contempt for education beginning in the home that spurs many parents into home-schooling."
TV and radio host Glenn Beck also chided Harris-Perry, calling her statements "parody of reality so far beyond what we have ever thought as a nation."
He added that there were likely plenty of parents who agree with her and would gladly hand over their parenting duties to an all-powerful nanny state.
