(NewsTarget) Achieving a healthy level of circulation is important for the growth of cells and the maintenance of the many systems of the body. Traditional horizontal sleeping has been shown by some researchers to inhibit the ability of the body's circulatory system to function at an optimum level; thus, this sleeping position causes restricted blood flow and the inability of the lymphatic system to flush out the toxins that accumulate in the many networks of vessels throughout the body. Inclined bed therapy, introduced by Andrew K. Fletcher, who was inspired by the way in which trees are able to pump sap up to the tops of their branches, utilizes the force of gravity to improve the circulation of the body while asleep.

Fletcher theorizes that trees utilize the force of gravity to propel a kind of elevator that carries the sap up and down the trunks and through the branches (a structure that is very similar to the network of veins and arteries in human beings). For this reason, Fletcher has designed inclined bed therapy to take advantage of the benefits of gravity while allowing individuals to rest in a position that is still comfortable. By raising the head of the bed between 4 and 8 inches, people can increase the gravitational force on their bodies while they are sleeping (and while remaining at a level that is conducive to rest). This posture will create the opportunity for the body to improve circulation without causing discomfort.

The benefits of inclined bed therapy are many: including the improvement of circulation, the decompression of the skeletal system, the increase of hydration, the removal of toxins, the repair of spinal cord injuries, clearer skin, an improvement in several diseases (including MS, Hashimoto's, and Parkinson's), less arthritic pain, more restful sleep, proper alignment of the spine and pelvic bones, lower blood pressure, less cardiac stress, resolution of problems associated with edema, and the healing of the lungs after years of smoking. With such a diverse list of benefits, it is safe to say that individuals that utilize this method of therapy experience an overall improvement in their health.

Inclined bed therapy is a technique that is effective as well as affordable. The cost of the therapy is no more than the cost of the materials used to prop up the bed. Many individuals utilize wooden blocks, as they can be easily adjusted to add height and can also be removed to facilitate transportation of the bed. Other individuals utilize foam while some construct wooden risers, which they nail to the supporting beams on the bottom of the bed frame.

Inclined bed therapy is still undergoing research, but the benefits of the technique are clear. People who have tried this method have experienced a long list of health improvements, which can all be achieved naturally and inexpensively. The key to this therapy is to maximize the ability of the body to perform on its own without introducing harmful chemicals or other substances, thus making inclined bed therapy an ideal natural remedy for a number of health problems.
