(NewsTarget) While people have different ideas about what it means to be a "raw foodist" (rawist), most people concerned with health and nutrition would agree that it is very important to include lots of fresh, raw, unprocessed foods into one's diet. The good news is that for those who want to eat healthy foods but don't always have time to do a lot of food preparation, Matt Amsden has created a weekly gourmet, organic, vegan raw food delivery service that will deliver anywhere in the continental United States. The service is called
RAWvolution™, and it is used by many beautiful and talented women like Carol Alt, Susan Sarandon, Cher, and Alicia Silverstone.
What's in The Box?Each week, Matt prepares a selection of 12 different foods (they vary each week) for his raw food "box" which includes two soups, four entrées, four side dishes, and two desserts. The box currently costs a hundred dollars, and there is an overnight shipping charge of twenty five dollars for folks who don't live close enough to go and retrieve it. For example, on the week of June 22nd, the contents of the box included French onion soup, cucumber watercress soup, cauliflower couscous, Thai coleslaw, mock tuna salad, bok choy salad, tostada with salsa fresca, Asian vegetable nori rolls, pizza Italiano, a seed cheese wrap, pecan crumble, and chocolate coconut fudge.
Why Use a Delivery Service? There are many obvious advantages in choosing to use this
raw food delivery service. For people who are short on time and still want to eat raw, healthy, organic, vegan cuisine, this service can't be beat. The service also provides an opportunity for people who are wondering about "raw
food" and want to sample a wide variety of dishes before investing in some of the more expensive standard raw food preparation equipment (i.e. blenders, food dehydrators, juicers and the like). The food delivery service is also a nice way to see what some of the dishes in Matt's
raw food cookbook,
RAWvolution™ Gourmet Living Cuisine, are like. For people who travel and will be at one destination for a period of time, it is possible to have the food delivered to most destinations in the continental United States.
Things to Consider Before OrderingAs with any service, there are also some disadvantages, as well. For example, there are no instructions included on how to assemble the food (at least there weren't when the author ordered the box). All of the food comes in vacuum-sealed packages that are coded with a number and must be referenced to the menu to find out what is in each package. (It helps to purchase Matt's cookbook, because the cookbook contains illustrations of what all of the dishes are supposed to look like and how they are supposed to be assembled.) It is also important to note that not all of the dishes travel as well as others. Some of the leafy greens may not be as fresh and crisp as they would be if prepared right before consumption.
Obviously, since the food comes as a collection and there is no way to order individual items, the purchaser should be sure that all of the items are suitable. There are some people who probably would not want to order this box. Anyone with nut allergies or with problems digesting nuts or seeds would be well-advised to avoid this box, as nuts and seeds are used in many of the dishes. If one isn't a fan of coconut, olives or dill, understand that these ingredients appear in many of the dishes. There is also no nutritional information included with any of the items, which may be a concern for some people.
Experience Raw EnergyEven if one isn't a fan of every single one of the ingredients used -- a list of ingredients for each dish is found on the website -- for anyone who is new to the raw food scene, it can be a very valuable learning experience. Being a raw foodist doesn't have to mean just eating a tossed salad at every meal. For those who are longing to regain that energetic feeling (like a kid waking up on a Saturday morning), eating lots of raw foods is a great place to start.
