Dead baby parts bought and sold across America in the name of 'science'
by Daniel Barker
(NaturalNews) Even pro-choice advocates were shocked at the news of Planned Parenthood's alleged collusion with a for-profit biotech firm called StemExpress to sell body parts harvested from aborted fetuses.
Although the practice is technically illegal, loopholes in the law appear to have been exploited by Planned Parenthood and biotech companies such as StemExpress, which act as middlemen between Planned Parenthood affiliates and "researchers" who purchase the organs.
A video released by the Center for Medical Progress, a pro-life organization, shows a secretly taped interview between undercover investigators and Planned Parenthood's senior director of medical services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, in which details regarding organ and tissue harvesting and sales are discussed over a casual lunch.
In the video, which has gone viral (more than 2.3 million views at last glance), Nucatola talks of how abortions are performed to retrieve intact organs, which organs are in demand, how much samples cost and a range of other topics, including how the federal laws on partial birth abortions can be circumvented.
In the undercover video, Nucatola says:
"The Federal [Partial Birth] Abortion Ban is a law, and laws are up to interpretation. So, if I say on day one, I do not intend to do this, what ultimately happens doesn't matter."
So on the one hand, we have abortion clinic doctors who are employing practices involving the violation of difficult-to-enforce federal abortion laws to obtain viable body parts, while on the other hand firms like StemExpress are allegedly selling these body parts, which is also against federal law.
The undercover video shows what are apparently drop-down menus on the StemExpress website -- menus listing various organs along with specifications for gestational period lengths from "4 weeks upward" for online ordering.
The language of the law
From Breitbart.com:
According to the US Criminal Code, the buying or selling human body parts is a federal felony. The commercial traffic of body parts from an aborted baby is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $500,000.
So, how is the online marketing of organs being permitted if it is in violation of federal laws forbidding the sale of human body parts?
Planned Parenthood gets around this by classifying the body parts as "tissue," rather than organs. Whatever money they charge for them is theoretically just to cover costs -- not to generate a profit. It is unclear, however, just why a for-profit company like StemExpress would be interested in being involved in the body parts trade if there is no financial gain.
And I think It would be difficult -- even for a pro-choice, pro-stem-cell-research advocate -- to watch this video without getting a sense that something is truly unethical and immoral (if not illegal) in the way Planned Parenthood operates these programs. Especially considering the disturbing manner in which Nucatola nonchalantly discusses the grisly details of organ harvesting and partial-birth abortions while eating lunch and quaffing wine.

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards has issued an apology:
"Our top priority is the compassionate care that we provide. In the video, one of our staff members speaks in a way that does not reflect that compassion. This is unacceptable, and I personally apologize for the staff member's tone and statements."
The video has triggered an outcry, with many demanding the suspension of Planned Parenthood's government funding. A petition is now being circulated calling for Congress to conduct an investigation into the matter.
Politicians and 2016 presidential race hopefuls have been outspoken on the subject, such as Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson, who said on Twitter:
"I'm urging Congress to eliminate every last dime of Planned Parenthood funding! The Planned Parenthood video is horrific and heartbreaking. We need a swift and thorough investigation immediately."
The controversy is sure to be a key talking point leading up to next year's presidential race -- at least among the Republican contenders. On the Democratic side, it likely to become a subject many candidates will prefer to avoid.
