The radical left's desecration of U.S. history and culture now starting to resemble a Stalinist purge
by J. D. Heyes
(NaturalNews) Radical American progressives have always fancied themselves "revolutionaries," but a more apt description might be "authoritarians," for if they had their way, your choice of expression, speech, belief system and especially political leanings would either match theirs or you would be deprived of them, and by force, if necessary.
There is no better proof of this than recent uproar over one of the Confederate South's most iconic symbols, the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. Most commonly referred to these days as "the Confederate Flag," the reality is the familiar "stars and bars" flag is but one design among many that were adopted by southern states who formed the Confederacy and the various armies formed within it.
Nevertheless, it was adopted nearly universally by Southern sympathizers and admirers of Southern culture and heritage in the decades following the Civil War – as well as by the Ku Klux Klan, one of the country's oldest racist organizations. And that association is what outrages the purveyors of political correctness and progressive social engineers the most.
'Eradicate' history
Following the murders of nine African-American parishioners at a historically black church in Charleston, S.C., in early July by Dylann Roof, 21, an avowed white supremacist pictured in a number of photos holding a handgun and the universally accepted version of the Confederate flag, there has been a mad push by Left-wing extremists to remove it from public venues, such as on the Capitol grounds at the South Carolina Statehouse.
But the progressives have not stopped there. They want to destroy or remove all images, monuments and vestiges of the Confederacy, as if to erase its existence from history, much in the way that once communists and Nazis – and now ISIS – tried to erase historical and religious references.
As reported by CBS Atlanta recently, one leader of the outdated civil rights group NAACP has actually called for the removal by sandblasting of the faces of historical figures Gen. Robert E. Lee, Gen. "Stonewall" Jackson and Jefferson Davis – two of the South's top military officers and its first and only president, respectively. In addition, the Atlanta NAACP chapter president, Richard Rose, believes Georgia should end Confederate Memorial Day and remove all Confederate icons from state grounds.
Rose called it "unfair, unfortunate, and unconscionable for the State of Georgia and any other government to continue to commemorate and spend taxpayer dollars in upholding and preserving Confederate monuments and symbols including the flag." On any government property, he added, "those symbols should be eradicated."
Will Mount Rushmore, with its bust of Thomas Jefferson, a slave owner, be next?
Meanwhile, in Memphis, Tenn., city council members have voted to exhume the body of Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife from Health Sciences Park and move it to another location. City officials also plan to sell a statute of Forrest "to anyone who wants it."
He is also known as the first Grand Wizard of the KKK, but later in life he distanced himself from the organization. Nevertheless, his memory must be purged.
America as Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia
That's what happened during China's Cultural Revolution. From 1966-68, China's leader, Mao Zedong, purged academics and other so-called "elitists" from the Communist Party in order to reassert his authority and reaffirm the communist goals of a classless society, where no one is more powerful or better than anyone else (except, of course, the leaders). In the process, some 60 million Chinese died.
In 1933 Nazi Germany, Chancellor Adolph Hitler's "Brownshirts" burned thousands of books, many irreplaceable, in an event unseen since in Europe since the Middle Ages.
In Josef Stalin's Soviet Union, purges of elites and others deemed a "threat" to his regime were also eliminated; 40 million Russians perished.
Don't doubt that America's Left-wing progressives want to totally eradicate any and all history and memory of anything the cultural and academic elite have deemed worthy of eradication.
That might someday include the kind of eradication practiced by Mao, Stalin and Hitler, if they get their way.
