Twisted America: Any idiot who can't even read can still vote, but Obama seeks to deny Bill of Rights to citizens who can't manage their personal finances

by J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) Progressives in government at all levels have bent over backwards to ensure that anyone who wants to vote gets to vote – even if they have never become citizens or have lost their right to vote by abusing civil society through the commission of crimes.

President Obama is a huge backer of both of these initiatives, as evidenced here and here.

But the president has become increasingly hostile to other rights held by Americans whose only "crime" was to get older.

The elderly – and our veterans, too

As reported by the Washington Times, the president is engaged in his largest anti-gun push ever, and he is using the Social Security Administration to do his dirty work. According to the paper, the White House wants to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning firearms if they supposedly lack the capacity to manage their own disability payments, in a move that the National Rifle Association has deemed the "largest gun grab in American history."

The Second Amendment, mind you, doesn't include any conditions. And our founding fathers certainly never intended for an American citizen's gun rights to be infringed because of age. But Obama has an agenda to "fundamentally transform" the country – and just a year-and-a-half left to complete his mission – so it is onward and upward.

According to a report in Outdoor Hub, the administration's initiative aims to, for the first time, integrate data from the Social Security Administration into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) run by the FBI. Anyone who has been deemed incompetent to manage their disability payments or pensions and has assigned a fiduciary to handle them could wind up losing their gun rights.

The initiative may wind up affecting as many as 4.2 million adults who currently fall under the guidelines, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"Obviously, many individuals swept up in this egregious case of bureaucratic over-reach would not otherwise be prohibited from owning, possessing, or acquiring firearms under federal law," said the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action.

The SSA initiative comes in response to an Executive memoranda issued by Obama in January 2013, to "improve the availability of records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)." The memorandum forces all agency heads to submit to the Department of Justice (DOJ) a plan for "sharing all relevant Federal records" for submission to the NICS, the NRA noted.

No opposition to Obama means he can "fundamentally transform" all he wants

As the legislative lobbying division of the nation's largest gun rights group further observed:

But SSA is not alone in this directive. The memorandum names several agencies, including the Departments of Defense, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Transportation, and "such other agencies or offices as the Chair may designate." Potentially, bureaucrats in all these agencies could be working hard to identify and forward "all relevant Federal records," to the NICS pursuant to the Obama mandate.

Indeed, other Americans are in danger of losing their right to keep and bear arms, ironically, because they chose to bear arms in defense of the country.

As reported by The New American, veterans who have been deemed "mentally defective" are also losing their gun rights, thanks to the very same Obama memoranda:

"It's disturbing to think that the men and women who dedicated themselves to defending our freedom and values face undue threats to their fundamental Second Amendment rights from the very agency established to serve them. A veteran or dependent shouldn't lose their constitutional rights because they need help with bookkeeping," U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, wrote in a letter to the Department of Justice this spring.

Disturbing, indeed, but without direct intervention from Congress against this Obama policy – something lawmakers seem incapable of doing these days – or some federal court decision overturning the action, vets along with vulnerable elderly Americans will be denied their "constitutionally guaranteed" right to keep and bear arms.
