Millennial medical student draws ire after posting selfie with dying hospital patient

(NaturalNews) On the first day of practicing dentistry in a real hospital setting, a millennial medical student thought it was a good idea to take home a memory. With no tact or common decency, the millennial medical student kneeled down, posed with a dying hospital patient and took a selfie. The snapshot shows the young medical student holding out her two-finger peace symbol at the bedside of a patient who is obviously in critical condition.
The photo surfaced online in the Mexican border city of Reynosa and has drawn sharp criticism ever since. The selfie was snapped by a young dental student named Maria Jose Gonzalez. She was attending the Valle de Mexico school in Reynosa, which is located near the U.S.-Mexican border just south of Hidalgo, Texas. The school is now taking disciplinary action, stating that the photo does not represent who they are or the values they embrace.

The millennial medical student said she has been misunderstood and that the dying patient gave her permission to take the snapshot.
Gonzalez said it was her first day at the hospital. She said she became friends with the patient and got her permission to take the selfie.
The medical school is investigating the incident.
College degrees don't guarantee good character
This obnoxious, insensitive and disrespectful selfie illustrates a growing problem in the academic world today. While many students graduate with prestigious degrees and gain extraordinary credentials, not all of them end up with good character traits. A well-educated person might look very employable on paper, but their character could be rotten and their ethics might be nonexistent.
A medical school graduate with all the credentials could ace the paperwork and go through the motions of clinical practice, but he or she might never gain any real character traits in the process. How does the medical student treat a patient who is in critical condition – as an expendable prop in a selfie, or as a dignified individual? The current medical system doesn't favor quality of life and thus lacks the character and sensitivity needed in the art of healing.
Having character is more important than having intelligence. Showing respect, empathy and compassion for another human being will always be more important than having a college degree. If a medical student lacks sensitivity for the lives that are in critical condition, their entire education means nothing.
This clueless millennial medical student might be the epitome of what's wrong in the medical system. The character, humanity and intuition in the art of healing has been replaced with attention-getting snapshots of careless and insensitive "professionals."
