Kellogg's Corn Flakes were invented to stop sexual behavior; thanks to GMOs, they're now doing just that!

(NaturalNews) Did you know that Kellogg's Corn Flakes were originally meant to suppress sexual desire in people who ate them? That was the intention of corn flakes inventor John Harvey Kellogg, who believed that sex was unhealthy for the body as well as the soul. In order to spread his libido-suppressing invention to the masses, he partnered with his brother, businessman Will Kellogg.
Unfortunately for John, however, Will decided to add sugar to corn flakes in order to make them more appetizing. This decision outraged John and led to a decades-long feud between the brothers. It was Will Kellogg who eventually founded the Kellogg Company.
As evidence continues to emerge of the hormone-disrupting effects of foods made with genetically modified organisms (GMOs), could John Harvey Kellogg's dream of sex-preventing corn flakes finally be coming true?
Corn flakes and yogurt enemas
Nineteenth-century physician John Harvey Kellogg was a true believer, to the extent that he claimed to have never had sex, not even with his wife. Instead, the couple adopted children. They slept in separate bedrooms throughout their marriage.
According to Kellogg, masturbation was even worse than sex.
"Self-pollution is a crime doubly abominable," he wrote. In his book Plain Facts for Old and Young, he listed 39 different ailments that could be caused by masturbation, including acne, bad posture, epilepsy, "fickleness," "infirmity," palpitations, poor development and stiff joints.
Because Kellogg believed that meat and rich or flavored foods increased sexual desire, he believed that plainer foods would lead to purer thoughts and impulses. This led him to develop several plain breakfast cereals, the first of which consisted of baked, ground oats and corn. He called this "granula" but later changed the name to "granola" because the former name was already taken by another company. Corn flakes was his second foray into breakfast cereal.
Not all Kellogg's anti-masturbation techniques involved food. He also invented an enema machine and suggested flushing the intestines with water and then administering a cup of yogurt as a second enema before taking another cup orally.
Cereal made with reproductive-disrupting GMOs
While the perspective of history makes it easy for most people to laugh at Kellogg's ideas, modern Kellogg's breakfast cereals are no laughing matter. The company's public statements on GMOs make it clear that while Kellogg's products are GMO-free in Europe, that is not the case in the United States. Instead, Kellogg's purchases ingredients from standard U.S. suppliers, even though the company acknowledges that this virtually guarantees the presence of GMOs in its non-organic products.
Indeed, a 2013 test contracted by GMO Free USA confirmed that 100 percent of the corn used in Kellogg's Froot Loops was GMO. DNA analysis confirmed that the corn was of both "Roundup Ready" (GMOs engineered to resist Monsanto's herbicide Roundup, also known as glyphosate) and "Bt" (GMOs engineered to produce pesticides from the bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis in their tissues) varieties. The cereal was also found to contain Roundup Ready soy.
Studies have shown that a diet of GMOs affects animals' hormonal and reproductive systems. For example, male rats that were fed a GMO soy diet experienced a change in testicle color from pink to blue and suffered damage to the DNA of their sperm and the DNA of the embryos that they produced. Female rats have shown higher infant death rates and smaller and less fertile infants. Farm animals fed GMO corn and cottonseed have experienced a wide variety of fertility problems, including abortion, infant death, delivery of bags of water instead of infants, infertility, premature delivery and prolapsed uteri.
Some of these effects might come from the extraordinarily high levels of glyphosate residue found on "Roundup Ready" GMOs. Glyphosate is a known endocrine disruptor, and it has also been shown to cause damage to the reproductive system.
Do Kellogg's Corn Flakes diminish sexual desire? Maybe, maybe not. Do they damage the healthy functioning of the reproductive system? They most likely do.
