If you can choose to be a gender, can you also choose to be a race?
by J. D. Heyes
(NaturalNews) In what is quickly becoming the latest example of progressive intolerance, it seems that more than a few liberals are upset that the local chapter president of the African American organization NAACP in Spokane, Washington, isn't African American. In fact, she may be white, a discovery that is not sitting well the some of the organization's other true African American leaders.
As noted by Pundit Press, the racial identity of Rachel Dolezal is currently being questioned because, though she claims to be African American, her own parents have come out and stated publicly that she has been misleading people about her ethnicity, which is actually Czech, Swedish and German with some Native American.
"It's more important to me to clarify that to the black community, and with my executive board, than it really is for me to explain it to a community that I quite frankly don't think understands the definitions of race and ethnicity," she said in public comments recently.
"I feel like I owe my executive committee a conversation," she continued. "That question is not as easy as it seems. There's a lot of complexities, and I don't know that everyone would understand that.
"We're all from the African continent," she continued.
"Rachel has not just been herself"
Dolezal was referencing a common theory about modern human evolution – that today's human beings originated in Africa, a theory that has since been challenged after a separate hominid discovery in Greece.
"Rachel has wanted to be somebody she's not," Dolezal's mother, Ruthanne, said. "She's chosen not to just be herself but to represent herself as an African-American woman or a biracial person. And that's simply not true.
"It's very sad that Rachel has not just been herself," her mother continued. "Her effectiveness in the causes of the African-American community would have been so much more viable, and she would have been more effective if she had just been honest with everybody."
But wait – haven't today's progressives already set the "rule" that you are who you think you are? Wasn't that the thinking behind their approval of the "transition" of former Olympic star Bruce Jenner, a man, into Caitlin Jenner, a female?
Isn't that the thinking behind recent legislation signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown that allows public school students the option of using either male or female bathrooms, depending on what gender they themselves choose to identify with?
"This law requires California public schools to allow students, as young as kindergarteners, to use bathrooms, showers, locker rooms, and other facilities based on their 'gender identity' and not biological sex," said a description of the law by CalWatchdog.org.
"More specifically, Assembly Bill 1266 would allow a male high school senior who identifies himself as a female, not only to play on the girl's basketball, volleyball or field hockey team, but also to change, dress, and shower in the girl's locker room," Breitbart.com added. "Conversely, the law would provide identical rights to females who self-identify as males."
The state of Washington has a similar law; it was passed in 2006, CalWatchdog.org reported.
A confusing, divergent quagmire of conflicting values
So what gives? Can't a white woman "self-identify" as a black woman? For that matter, as long as a person is doing the bidding of the NAACP, as is required by their position, should it even matter what race or ethnicity they are?
Actress Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project, who is Indian, has a brother who pretended to be black so he could get into a medical school in St. Louis. Was he wrong to "self-identify" as another race?
Progressives, in their relentless pursuit of societal engineering, have created endless situations that are not only ripe for hypocrisy but assailable for their unworkability, as well as their impracticality. And yet, they are relentless in demanding more "change," if only for the sake of "change," all the while feigning outrage when cultural devices of their own creation are used against them.
Thanks to all of this unnatural manipulation, American society and pop culture have degenerated into a confusing, divergent quagmire of conflicting values that nobody seems sure of anymore, much less be able to positively identify. And that can't be good for our future.
You may not like what we used to call "traditional American values," but at least most of us could identify them – and identify with them. After all, they are what made us Americans.
