The dialysis industry wants people to eat GMOs and glyphosate

(NaturalNews) It's no secret that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup, is at the center of heated controversy. Of course, Monsanto and its supporters maintain that the ingredient is safe, even after an arm of the World Health Organization -- the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) -- declared the chemical as "probably carcinogenic to humans." Then there are those who know better, angered that such a horrific product continues to be sold.(1)
While the health effects of glyphosate have been felt by many around the world -- primarily farmers who work directly in the fields where the ingredient is sprayed -- its problems are perhaps most heavily felt in Nicaragua and El Salvador. There, it's estimated that kidney disease, which is linked to glyphosate, kills more people than diabetes, AIDS and leukemia combined. Boston University's Daniel Brooks says in a video by the Center for Public Integrity that this is "a very large problem that comes at great social, economic and humanitarian cost."(2)
In Sri Lanka, health problems run rampant too. There, people are dying of chronic kidney disease in droves; the government has found that 15 percent of working-age people have CKDu, or chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology. Their involvement with glyphosate -- from working in fields and drinking from abandoned wells -- is linked to these ailments and deaths. Fortunately, recent action by the country's newly-elected president, Maithripala Sirisena, involves the ban of glyphosate due to such findings, and it's an important step forward.(3,4)
Vicious cycle: Glyphosate linked to chronic kidney problems, yet in some areas, you can't get dialysis
Still, people continue to fall ill and die. Residents of India are experiencing health setbacks and dying, something which Ajay Singh of Harvard University says is a vicious cycle that certain residents have hardly any control over. Instead, the makers of glyphosate and the dialysis industry remain in control of people's health. "In India, if you are poor, you can't pay for dialysis when your kidney's fail," Singh says. "It's not that dialysis isn't available... it's that because of who you are and how much you have... you can't get the same access to healthcare that other people believe is a right." He stresses the importance of establishing a connection between environmental exposure to such chemicals and human health problems, so "we can potentially prevent villages from dying from kidney failure."(2)
Yet sadly, establishing this connection to the point of completely stopping its use will require cooperation from Monsanto. A longtime Monsanto scientist recently appeared on the show The Doctors and defended glyphosate, often referring to the fact that she's a caring mother as well as a respected professional. The company even issued a statement in response to the IARC classification of glyphosate in which they rattled of a series of reasons as to why they disagree with their conclusion. Therefore, it would appear that Monsanto, along with another money-hungry industry, the dialysis industry, are bent on harming health rather than helping it. If there's money to be made, even it if includes people dying, then so be it.

The fact that Monsanto and those who are brainwashed by their "glyphosate is safe" mentality continue to applaud the chemical's "safety" and use is a sad comment about humanity. The link between glyphosate -- and let's not forget GMOs -- and health problems is obvious, yet they turn the other way and come up with desperate excuses that attempt to show otherwise.
However, you can voice your concerns by signing petitions to have two large stores, Home Depot and Lowe's, remove Roundup from their shelves. They're found on Change.org; you can sign the Home Depot one here and the Lowe's one here. In both petitions, it's mentioned that, if the stores were "to ignore this petition and continue to sell glyphosate-containing products, it would show their customers and the communities who support their business that they value the sales of this product more than they value the health of you or your children."(5,6)
