Tropical Traditions begins voluntarily testing their foods for traces of Roundup
by Jonathan Benson, staff writer
(NaturalNews) One of the top healthy food companies in the U.S. has made a bold, customer-conscious decision to scrap all products from its line that contain any traces whatsoever of toxic glyphosate herbicide (Roundup) as part of a new, better-than-organic standards and certification program that sets the bar even higher for clean, poison-free food in America.
Tropical Traditions' new "Healthy Traditions" labeling and product-testing system will ensure that you and your family have access to clean foods that are pesticide-free, GMO-free and all around toxin-free. There is literally no other program currently in existence in the U.S. with purity standards this high -- even the Non-GMO Project allows low amounts of GMOs in its "verified" products -- and we're excited to be able to share this exciting news with our readers.
For the past several months, Tropical Traditions, which is known primarily for its high-quality coconut oils, has been testing each and every one of its products for glyphosate after discovering back in late 2014 that much of the certified organic wheat supply in the U.S. is contaminated with Roundup.
The presence of pesticide and herbicide residues -- and particularly glyphosate -- in wheat and other grains grown in America has recently emerged as a widespread problem. Neither the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) nor the Department of Agriculture (USDA) currently tests for this type contamination, so the public has to just guess which products in this category might be tainted, or avoid them altogether.
Tropical Traditions is the first food company we know of to begin voluntarily testing for glyphosate contamination in order to protect its customers from harm. Committed to selling only the cleanest and safest food products available, the company's CEO, Brian Shilhavy, says he would rather sell nothing at all than sell contaminated food products to his customers.
Tropical Traditions introduces "Healthy Traditions" certification that goes above and beyond certified organic
In recent weeks, this has meant pulling things like organic flax and hemp seeds, and even organic freeze-dried strawberries, from the company's inventory until safe alternatives can be found and stocked. But Tropical Traditions is working feverishly with its existing suppliers and with new ones to make this happen, demonstrating a true commitment to people over profits.
Unfortunately, this takes time, as Shilhavy and his team want to do things right, making sure that each and every batch of product is completely free of glyphosate with not a trace of anything harmful.
"It might seem that it is a simple procedure for us to simply test all of our products for the presence of glyphosate, and know right away which products we can continue selling, and which ones we cannot. Unfortunately, it is not so simple," said Silhavy. "We have to carefully consider how the product is produced or grown, and how likely a sample taken from a certain batch is to represent all products grown or produced by that supplier."
Tropical Traditions is so committed to providing only the healthiest foods to its customers that its "Healthy Traditions" certification guarantees that a product is traditionally produced and tested for GMOs and glyphosate. What this all means is further explained here, here and here.
The program will involve developing an extensive, nationwide network of producers and suppliers that meet or exceed each of these standards to ensure that all Healthy Traditions products maintain a zero percentage tolerance for glyphosate, GMOs and all other herbicides and pesticides.
"Today's certifications and labeling have become so watered-down and confusing, that we thought it was time to define our own standards, so that the consumer can better understand the commitment we have to high standards that promote a healthy lifestyle," explains Tropical Traditions about the program.
Tropical Traditions truly is an industry leader in clean, safe, chemical-free food. We highly recommend that you check out what they have to offer and support their efforts to promote the Healthy Traditions labeling standard:
