Why eating healthy doesn't always result in the health you desire
by Derek Henry
(NaturalNews) When deciding to finally become healthy, one of the first things we evaluate and change is the food we put in our mouth. After all, nutrition is the fuel our body runs on and to get premium results we need the best fuel, right? Turns out that is only partly true, as many people are figuring out that all the great food they are now eating after decades of digestive abuse isn't translating into the health they imagined. There's a perfectly legitimate reason, and your understanding and resolution of it can take your health to the next level.
The nutrient profile of food doesn't necessarily equal nutrient absorption
A very common mistake people make with food is the assumption that the nutrient profile is exactly what will be assimilated inside the body, when this is rarely the case. There are several reasons for this lack of nutrient absorption, including:
- Gut flora imbalance
- Enzyme deficiency
- Magnesium deficiency
- Stress
- Parasites
- Improperly prepared or combined foods
- Poor chewing
- Low stomach acid
- Impaired pancreatic function
- Improperly functioning liver
- Difficult to digest foods (ie. wheat, soy, dairy)
If you experience any one of these issues you will consistently be flushing nutrients meant for your body down the toilet, or worse, the undigested food particles will be left in your colon and rendered toxic, which can eventually be absorbed back into your bloodstream. So instead of getting much needed nutrients, you essentially get poisoned due to poor assimilation.
Unfortunately, most people experience at least 2 or 3 of these issues, and for others, all of them. This is primarily a result of a toxic food system that creates customers for the pharmaceutical industry, which in turns systematically destroys their digestive system and supporting organs, to the point that the intestinal system creates an unhealthy gut biofilm that creates the following issues:
- Prevents full absorption of nutrients across the intestinal wall
- Protects disease causing microorganisms from the immune system
- Protects disease causing organisms from antibiotics and antifungals (both herbal and pharmaceutical)
- Promotes inflammation
- Houses toxins like heavy metals
The protection this biofilm provides makes it very difficult to resolve various infections, which further promotes gut flora imbalance, which in turn creates a cascading effect that leads to dysfunction for other organs, glands, and systems that have a pronounced effect on digestion and assimilation.
So until you balance your inner ecology, complete nutrient absorption is a pipe dream.
Break through unhealthy biofilm and restore your gut flora
So even though you have started eating healthy, you may be missing certain key components on a daily basis that can break through that unhealthy biofilm which leads to a much better absorption of the wonderful nutrients contained in the healthy foods you eat on a consistent basis.
To break apart the biofilm matrix, consider some of these natural methods which have been shown to be effective:
- Proteolytic enzymes (protease, papain, pepsidase FP) - taken away from food
- Clove (Syzygium aromaticum)
- False black pepper (Embelia ribes)
- Apple cider vinegar
In addition to this, consume only whole and nutrient dense foods, and a diet rich in beneficial bacteria like fermented foods and probiotic beverages. This will help to create a proper bacterial balance, which will go a long ways towards better nutrient absorption.
The first and most important thing almost everyone can do for their health is balance their gut flora. For a powerful 1-2 punch, make this easy Coconut Kefir Recipe and consume it daily along with organic apple cider vinegar (recipe in the first source below).
