$7 billion in sales for Non-GMO Project-verified foods in one year!

by S. D. Wells

(NaturalNews) The iconic butterfly (label) is really taking flight, surpassing projections by more than double last year, proving that 90% of Americans would love to know what is in their food and are taking actions to look for a label which tells them that the genes of their foods haven't been modified and altered in a laboratory. Currently, there are more than 20,000 "Non-GMO Project Verified" products and 2,200 participating brands, and the number is rapidly growing. Public demand is expanding the project's capacity, and the program's administration is busy hiring more inspectors, technical administrators and certification bodies to handle the expansion. The compliance and technical verification process is comparable to organic but not exactly the same. "We currently have more than 2,200 participating brands, and are receiving an average of 70-80 new verification inquiries every week," said Megan Westgate, Executive Director of the Non-GMO Project.

Take a close look at the food chain

What kind of "certificate" does the food you eat receive? Are the ingredients spelled out clearly on the label, on the jar and box, or did your food manufacturer NOT have to disclose that alterations to certain seeds make particularly popular vegetables resistant to a certain herbicide (Roundup) and cause the vegetation to produce its own insecticide? Yes, that is a long description to put on a label, but it's all been simplified by the Non-GMO Project, just look for the iconic butterfly.

Remember, "farm to table" can also mean from laboratory to farm to table if the seeds are genetically modified, altered, mutated and breed bug and weed killer. Are you part of the cancerous food chain? Are you being eaten by cancer-causing food? Take a closer look.

Recently, SCS Global Services, a world leader in third-party verification of sustainability and rigorous standards development, began technical training under supervision of the Non-GMO Project, and a pilot program working with companies starts autumn 2014. Now, "Hemp Oil Canada" announced Non-GMO Project verification that will include many of their products. This official label allows manufacturers, bulk wholesalers, businesses and distributors alike to purchase hemp foods and ingredients knowing that they are not consuming anything genetically modified.

Did you know that you can find Non-GMO products, restaurants and participating retailers by simply searching them on the Non-GMO Project website? It's easy! You just plug in the state and the first letter of the name and a list pops up.

Categories of foods that are popular with GMO ingredients see the greatest activity from manufacturers seeking Non-GMO verification to compete, which includes chips, snacks, pretzels and cold cereal. Also making the "most popular" list are non-dairy beverages.

Though GMOs have been deeply embedded in the global food supply since the mid-1990s, the GMO labeling push is massive. Though Monsanto and other lab-food engineers seek to create GM apples, oranges and potatoes, and though the GMA (Grocery Manufacturers Association) opposes the labeling of GMOs, projects like the Non-GMO Project are booming! If you don't know already, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), as well as WHO (World Health Organization) and the AMA (American Medical Association) aren't too concerned with the demise of public health. They all agree with the warped process of letting GMO manufacturers verify their own crops as safe, and nobody else. Take a look at REAL science and its proven results when investigating the dangers of consuming GMO.
