3 natural remedies that eliminate bad breath
by Jeanette Padilla
(NaturalNews) Bad breath, also known as halitosis, can be very difficult to live with. Typically, brushing and flossing can quickly eliminate bad breath. In some cases, however, this is not enough. Halitosis can become chronic - it affects 65 percent of Americans. Chronic dry mouth, which is caused by a lack of saliva production, can cause the mouth to become very dry and worsen a case of bad breath. Stomach issues can also be a cause of halitosis, like acid reflux, for example. In cases of acid reflux, the lower esophageal sphincter fails to close properly and allows the back-flow of stomach contents into the esophagus. That back flow of food in the esophagus can cause bad breath.
Peppermint
Peppermint is a very effective natural remedy for bad breath. Peppermint's natural anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties eliminate bacteria that cause bad breath. Peppermint drops can be used directly on the tongue to eliminate bad breath stemming from bacteria on the tongue and in the gums. Peppermint oil drops in tea can help eliminate bacteria in the stomach and therefore eliminating bad breath. Peppermint oil drops also help freshen breath, making the drops a great option to carry around.
Lemons
Drinking lemon water is beneficial in many ways. Eliminating bad breath is one of the benefits. Chronic bad breath can also be caused by excess acidity in the stomach. Since acid putrefies the contents of the stomach, it can lead to a bad smell which escapes via the esophagus. Lemons are acidic in taste but they have an alkalizing effect inside the body. Drinking lemon water for an extended period of time can help neutralize excess acid and eliminate bad breath.
Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is the green pigment found in leafy greens and vegetables. It is a powerful antioxidant, makes a great cleanser, and can be used as mouthwash to help eliminate bad breath. Use liquid chlorophyll in water and rinse with it after brushing your teeth. It will help eliminate bacteria and also freshen your breath. According to Dr. Howard Westcott, just 100 milligrams of chlorophyll in the diet can neutralize bad breath. Chlorophyll also cleanses the bloodstream. Apart from rinsing with chlorophyll, drinking it throughout the day can help eliminate bad breath and neutralize other body odors. For an extra-refreshing healthy drink, try adding one or two drops of food-grade peppermint oil to an 8oz glass of water with chlorophyll, it's very refreshing on hot summer days and an excellent way to combat bad breath and body odors.
