Geoff Lawton's permaculture wisdom can literally save the world
by J. D. Heyes
(NaturalNews) In the modern age many of the world's biggest problems have been solved through technology. But at the same time, technology has created a number of big problems, too, not the least of which is how we feed ourselves.
The global agriculture industry has been infiltrated and subsumed by mega-biotech corporations like Monsanto and Syngenta, which have forced one harmful substance after another on the world's population, all in the name of serving Mankind.
But the rise of GMO seeds and foods (Monsanto), for example, has come with an increase in cases of food sensitivities and life-threatening food allergies. FARE - Food Allergy Research & Education - citing a 2013 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study, reports that food allergies have increased by an astounding 50 percent between 1997 and 2011.
Chemicals and GMO foods to blame?
"The number of people who have a food allergy is growing, but there is no clear answer as to why," FARE says. "Researchers are trying to discover why food allergies are on the rise in developed countries worldwide, and to learn more about the impact of the disease in developing nations."
More than 15 million Americans and 17 million Europeans have developed food allergies, FARE notes. In the U.S. alone, the economic cost of children's food allergies is nearly $25 billion per year.
And the use of harmful chemicals on our crops like atrazine (Syngenta) is also creating problems, as noted by researcher Dr. Tyrone B. Hayes of the University of California at Berkeley. He found that African clawed frog tadpoles were "chemically castrated" when exposed to even trace amounts of atrazine, a chemical herbicide that, as of 2014, was the second-most-widely used agricultural chemical in U.S. after glyphosate (which goes under the trade name of Roundup, which was developed and is sold by Monsanto). Nearly 80 million pounds of atrazine is applied to U.S. crops annually.
Geoff Lawton to the rescue
But there is a natural solution to these problems and others, as noted by Australian Geoff Lawton, a world-renowned permaculture teacher, designer and consultant whose techniques, if used widely enough, can literally save the planet from itself. In a video introducing his techniques (you can sign up to view them for free here), Lawton says he's taught more than 6,000 people in more than 30 countries "permaculture design science."
His techniques, he says, allows people "to provide for all their needs in a way that's beneficial to the environment and so that they can survive in a really abundant and meaningful way."
Lawton then explained the contents of his free video series.
"The first one shows you how, by design, you can produce an abundant amount of food and provide for your needs using design," he says. "The second one gives you a property purchase checklist with three main elements that you have to look for...so that you can design a system to be very beneficial to provide for your needs."
The third video, he explains, "is a case study of an urban design site, a micro-site, that produces enormous amounts of food in a very small area."
"We've had tens of thousands of views" of the video series, Lawton continued, "and we've gotten over 100 pages of positive comments." He states further that he intends to keep subscribers "updated" with new information, via new videos, in the future. In all, there are more than 20 videos ranging in topics from "Rooftop Farm" to "Cold Climate Permaculture" to "Community Gardens."
"In my 42 years on this planet, nothing has made more sense to me than this approach to living. It literally made my eyes water up. I have to find a way to change direction and head down this road," writes "Greg."
"This is just flat out genius!!! I can't wait for the next videos as I too am planning to be a part of the solution and not the problem. By that I mean, production for myself and others," said "Contramondial."
The video series can be found here.
