Project Kickstarter trying to censor documentary about abortion serial murderer

by J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) A veteran filmmaker and journalist has run into controversy over his latest project before it has even launched, which he is attributing to extremist political agendas in Hollywood and elsewhere in the entertainment world.

Phelim McAleer and his wife and creative partner, Ann McElhinney, have joined with Magdalena Segieda to make a move about Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia late-term abortion doctor who was recently convicted of multiple murders and 21 illegal abortions, including the horrific killings of many babies as they were being delivered. The trio has previously collaborated to produce the documentary FrackNation.

But their plans to raise in excess of $2 million via the crowdfunding website Kickstarter was derailed recently when the site's operators objected to the description of the project and raised concerns about the political machinations behind it.

"This is unacceptable to us and it should be unacceptable to any filmmaker particularly on a platform such as Kickstarter which claims to be all about artistic freedom," McAleer said. "Kickstarter's actions are particularly odious and alarming because they are an attempt to censor factual descriptions of a serial killer's actions."

In a press statement, the filmmaking trio accused the website of attempting "to restrict the detailing of Gosnell's crimes."

According to grand jury testimony, Gosnell's gruesome killing techniques including jabbing sharp scissors into the back of the neck of babies born alive during so-called "botched" abortion procedures. The testimony also detailed Gosnell's practice of keeping dead baby body parts -- feet, in particular -- in jars in his office.

'Biggest serial killer in history'

More from the grand jury testimony:

This case is about a doctor who killed babies ... What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable, babies in the third trimester of pregnancy -- and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors .... Over the years, many people came to know that something was going on here. But no one put a stop to it.

According to the trial report, one neonatal physician testified:

The neonatologist testified... If a baby moves, it is alive. Equally troubling, it feels a "tremendous amount of pain" when its spinal cord is severed. So, the fact that Baby Boy A. continued to move after his spinal cord was cut with scissors means that he did not die instantly. Maybe the cord was not completely severed. In any case, his few moments of life were spent in excruciating pain.

Kickstarter has so far not responded to media inquiries regarding McAleer's allegations.

McAleer has labeled Gosnell as the biggest serial killer in American history; he says he is simply shocked that there has not been a movie made about his deeds thus far.

"There have been four movies about Ted Bundy, five about the Zodiac killer, three about John Wayne Gacy, and the Lifetime network has already made and broadcast a film about Jodie Arias -- who killed one person. Kermit Gosnell killed more than them all put together," McAleer said.

What's the problem? The trio say they believe that it has much to do with Hollywood's extreme left-wing bias and overall support for abortion on demand.

Isn't this a national story?

"Hollywood and the mainstream media have been very reluctant to cover this serial killer, but we think it's time Gosnell's story was told," McElhinney said.

Rather than go to Hollywood for financing -- something the trio believes is a lost cause -- they have now turned to Indiegogo, a crowdfunding rival to Kickstarter.

"GOSNELL will be based on trial transcripts -- it will be based on what happened and how America's most prolific serial killer was allowed to go undetected for over 30 years," Segieda said.

Their last project, FrackNation, raised $212,000 through crowdfunding. For the Gosnell film, their goal is $2.1 million, with a host of perks being offered to donors.

Gosnell was sentenced to several life terms in prison. During his trial, the mainstream media -- especially the national media -- largely avoided coverage, including testimony which concluded that several of his newborn victims suffered terribly before they died.

"In a 30 year killing spree, it is thought he killed 1000s of babies. And that wasn't a national story?" says the trio of filmmakers on their Indiegogo page.
