Obamacare navigators caught on film telling enrollees to commit fraud
by J. D. Heyes
(NaturalNews) The moment that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told a Senate panel that Obamacare "navigators" - those hired to help Americans weave through the labyrinth of the law's rules and regulations - could be convicted felons, I began a mental countdown of how long it would take before the first story showcasing Sebelius' incredible admission broke.
It took six days.
On Nov. 6, in response to a question from Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, who asked Sebelius if it was true that, because there is no federal background check requirement for Obamacare navigators, some of those who are eventually hired could be criminals, the HHS chief replied, "That is possible." (Background checks for exercising your Second Amendment rights, but not for anyone dealing with your personal information.)
On Nov. 12, news broke that undercover videographer James O'Keefe - the guy who helped bring down ACORN (the "community organizing" group that Barack Obama worked for as a lawyer and trainer) and got National Public Radio's president fired - had produced a new video showing corruption and illegal activity by none other than Obamacare navigators (see the video here).
'Don't get yourself into trouble now'
In the opening scene, an undercover videographer working with O'Keefe's Project Veritas organization catches a navigator instructing a posing customer to "lie" about income levels, in order to get a better taxpayer-subsidized premium.
"You lie because your premiums will be higher," the navigator says. When the posing applicant says he sometimes smokes, she responds: "Don't tell them that. Don't tell 'em."
She and other navigators then proceed to admit that they "always lie" on their applications.
In another scene, a navigator in Dallas tells the undercover investigator that he should not declare any income he has not declared in the past.
"Don't get yourself into trouble now," she says. "Yeah, it didn't happen," says another, as all three then laugh. Then another chimes in: "Never report it."
Then there is, of course, the political aspect of the Obamacare navigators.
Wait - you didn't know about this side of the coin? Well, understand that everything Obama does is geared toward the advancement of his Marxist political ideology. As noted by National Review's John Fund:
O'Keefe's cameras then visit Enroll America, a nationwide nonprofit group that has launched a multi-state grassroots campaign to help millions of Americans sign up for health coverage. Daniel Clayton of Enroll America says the group is "purely nonprofit. It's not partisan, non-political." But when Brian Pendleton of Enroll America is introduced at a speaking engagement, Enroll America is described as "the official group for the DNC [Democratic National Committee]."
In addition, as documented by O'Keefe and his team, Enroll America works closely with a political action committee called "Battleground Texas," a group founded by Obama's national campaign director which is committed over the long run to transform Texas into another bastion of abject liberalism:
Says Fund:
Enroll America, O'Keefe reports, appears to be sharing data and working directly with an explicitly political group called Battleground Texas, activities that he notes "are prohibited unless certain conditions are met." Adrian Bell, the regional field director for Battleground Texas, proudly notes the group was "started by President Obama's national field director" and is "dedicated to turning Texas blue."
Obamacare - part of the 'fundamental transformation' of America
This was all predictable. For years, Democratic operatives have been devising plans to do to Texas what has been done to New York, California and Colorado, and what is currently in play in Virginia - turn high-electoral states blue.
But there's more regarding the criminal behavior of the navigators. Michael Astrue, HHS general counsel (1989-92) and commissioner of Social Security (2007-13), wrote recently in the Weekly Standard:
Instead of hiring well-screened, well-trained, and well-supervised workers, HHS decided to build political support for the Affordable Care Act by pouring money into supportive organizations so they could launch poorly trained workers into their communities without obtaining criminal background checks or creating systems for monitoring their activities.
Obama said during his 2008 campaign he wanted to "fundamentally transform" our country. At the time, no one in the sycophantic media bothered to ask, "Transform the country from what, to what?"
Obamacare, for all the world, is a huge part of that transformation.
