Woman overcomes arthritis with raw foods, is no longer trapped in a system of medications
by Antonia
(NaturalNews) Kes Cardoso used to have debilitating arthritis that rendered her unable to go outside, especially if it was raining. These days, she starts her mornings with a run. Cardoso says, "I can't wait to leave the house and jog." She hardly believes she can finally utter such words.
In 2011, she relied on pain killers and sleep medications to manage her arthritis. Doctor visits were routine and often involved steroid injections to help control her knee pain, a lifestyle that led to frustrations and depression. "I was fed-up from going from one drug and therapy to another without finding a cure, and I felt trapped in a system," says Cardoso, also known as Miss Natureba in the social media world. She finally took it upon herself to stop dependence on this upsetting, painful cycle, turning to raw foods. The results have been amazing.
Raw foods to heal arthritis
In 2012, Cardoso began a raw food lifestyle. After three months, she says her arthritis symptoms went away and that she no longer experiences her chronic pain.
Cardoso says, "The change to a raw foods diet has really opened my life to new possibilities. I don't have pain in my knees anymore. I can enjoy life in ways I couldn't before." One of the new possibilities she's referring to is her newfound interest and enjoyment of barefoot running or "natural running" which often involves use of minimal footwear/padding. Its concept is rooted in the thought that going barefoot is a natural way to run which can also minimize stress on joints.
Raw foods dramatically help relieve arthritic symptoms in large part due to the diet's absence of meat and grains. Experts say that meats and grains are acid forming, and the body uses calcium in our bones to counteract that process. Over time, we are so depleted of bone-building sources due to unhealthy diets that arthritic conditions develop.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 50 million U.S. adults have arthritis, the most common reason precludes nearly 21 million Americans from engaging in activities as basic as using stairs or taking short walks.
