California unemployment welfare system breaking down, workers receiving death threats for late 'benefit checks'
by J. D. Heyes
(NaturalNews) If you have ever wondered why politicians will keep those welfare checks and benefits rolling for as long as they can, while sometimes letting other truly vital services go unfunded, this story will explain it to you.
NBC affiliate KCRA in California reported that a number of people who regularly receive unemployment payments grew so upset when they were delayed recently, they took to threatening the lives of state employment system workers.
Per the affiliate:
As the number of Californians who are without their regular unemployment payments ballooned this week, people's frustrations grew. Some have been taking their anger to online forums, while others apparently took it out on employees of the Employment Development Department.
The agency's employees, some of whom have been working at all hours of the night to pay claimant their overdue benefits, have also received death threats, an EDD spokeswoman said...
Gotta keep those beneficiaries happy
Loree Levy, the spokeswoman, said she did not have details about the threats and it remained unclear at the time of the report as to whether they had gotten so bad that extra security might be required at the EDD buildings.
She added that the agency had a backlog of about 60,000 claims that were being processed late, as the department tried to catch up with tens of thousands of complaints filed by people hacked off about not getting their government check on time.
"There are people working until 4 o'clock in the morning and turning around and coming back at 9 o'clock in the morning," Levy said of the agency's employees. "There are a lot of dedicated individuals working to see that this gets resolved."
Because we can't have the masses upset.
The EDD's backlog began over Labor Day weekend, KCRA reported, after a computer upgrade to the department's machines mistakenly, and automatically, marked some beneficiaries with a stop-pay flag.
Levy said - and this is the truly disturbing part - that only a small fraction of beneficiaries were inconvenienced. Initially the glitch affected only about 20,000 persons, but grew to about 90,000 later before falling to 60,000.
"The number fluctuates as people re-certify for a payment every two weeks and as EDD manually fixes the problem in people's accounts," the affiliate reported.
When you create dependent people, you get dependency
And while the department struggles to catch up - understand that, since it's a government agency, it will be notoriously and habitually overtasked and understaffed - California recipients say they're struggling to pay for basic things.
"I do have a disabled daughter that has extraordinary care," said Koleen Biegacki, an Antelope resident. "And she requires certain foods and certainly, she will not go without, but it does put a strain on our family."
This is the result, in large part, of President Obama's economic policies. Granted, California politics and policies are to blame as well, for it tends to over-regulate and over-tax, just like the federal government. But massive, bureaucratic-heavy laws like Obamacare, coupled with 3,000 new regulations a year coming from the EPA, the IRS, the Bureau of Land Management and countless other federal agencies, it's no wonder that record numbers of people remain out of work and dependent on a government stipend just to stay afloat.
But you can see what happens the instant that that taxpayer-supported lifeline runs out. Even just a delay in benefits drew death threats; now imagine when the well runs completely dry, as it just might in broke California and elsewhere, and tens of millions of dependent Americans are suddenly, completely cut off from the only form of subsistence they have.
What do you think they'll do - go quietly into the night?
Advocates of bigger government and more benefits may have some sort of guilty conscience they are assuaging, or perhaps they are just not very educated in the ways of economics. But the fact is, the larger our Dependency Class grows, the bigger the fallout when the system inevitably collapses.
And saying "I told you so" then won't really matter. That's why it's important to oppose policies that create this kind of dependence now, while civil society still exists.
If you've wondered why I'm such an opponent of Obamacare, this should help clear things up. It has nothing to do with not having "compassion" and everything to do with having a complete understanding of human nature. When you create creatures of dependence and then deprive them of the only means they have of surviving, you get a violent outcome. It's been that way since the dawn of Mankind and it's never going to change.
